10 Harley Quinn & The Joker

One of the biggest ships of the show that is always in the background is between Harley and The Joker. While this movie is all about Harley moving on after their breakup and coming into her own, it’s still a present relationship because of its absence.

While a lot of people don’t like this ship because it is a toxic one comprised of two psychotic villains, there’s no denying that it’s been a popular ship for a long time. However, Birds of Prey offered many alternatives for people who don’t like these two together.

9 Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy

This is another ship that isn’t actually in the movie at all, but it is one that fans of the characters enjoy. While Poison Ivy isn’t in the movie, Birds of Prey definitely opened up the world of Harley Quinn and female anti-heroes in a way that means she could appear in the future.

Birds of Prey also confirmed in a low-key way at the beginning that Harley is, in fact, bisexual. So, anyone who is aware of the Poison Ivy relationship probably was thinking about it when that was revealed! 8 Roman Sionis & The Joker

Black Mask is an extremely sadistic villain and chaotically evil in a way that mirrors The Joker. While it’s clear in the movie through the dialogue that these two are actually enemies, there’s no denying it would be a fascinating but extremely troubling dynamic.

Given how messed up The Joker is, it would make more sense for him to have a relationship with someone just as chaotic as he is and just as evil as opposed to someone like Harley Quinn.

7 Harley Quinn & the Breakfast Sandwich

While this entry is definitely more of a funny one, there is something to be said about not shipping Harley Quinn with anyone at all. There is nothing that she wants more in Birds of Prey than to eat her breakfast sandwich.

Given how toxic her relationship with The Joker was, the idea of her being alone and single for a while is rather important. Instead of finding another boyfriend or girlfriend right away, getting some time to herself to continue on her path and enjoy eating as many breakfast sandwiches as possible would be good for her.

6 Harley Quinn & Dinah Lance

Harley Quinn and Dinah Lance have some pretty intense conversations and scenes together in Birds of Prey. They can both relate to each other as they are both being used and mistreated by powerful, sadistic men.

When Dinah defends Harley against men who are out to get her, she goes against her best interest to do so. There does seem to be a bond between these two women, and while Dinah is definitely more of a heroic character their dynamic is compelling.

5 Roman Sionis & Victor Zsasz

One of the most obvious but also most problematic ships to develop from Birds of Prey is Roman and his right-hand man, Victor. They are both extremely gross, violent people, and their hatred of women is palpable.

Many people pointed out that these two both seem queer-coded, and it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch to think that they could have some sort of romantic or sexual relationship. While it would never be a positive relationship by any means, the chemistry was definitely there.

4 Dinah Lance & Huntress

Black Canary and Huntress are another popular queer ship that fans have been talking about after the movie came out. Both of these women have traumatic pasts and are rather badass.

They seem like they would be a good balance to one another as Huntress is more awkward and withdrawn while Dinah is more confident but also serious. They would make a really beautiful couple, and it would be great to see their relationship develop more over time even as friends.

3 Renee Montoya & Ellen Yee

Renee and her ex-girlfriend Ellen are one of the only actual relationships shown in the movie. While these two might not be the best match, they have to be on the list because they were an actual couple at one point.

Many fans were happy with the casual way Renee’s queerness was included in the movie. While Ellen might have not supported Renee and betrayed her in a way in the end, seeing a casual queer relationship was a good thing.

2 Harley, Black Canary, & Huntress

Many people have shipped Harley Quinn with both Black Canary and Huntress, but instead of having a love triangle or trying to choose one over the other, some fans are shipping a polyamorous relationship between the three of them.

However, they became happier and better students off the court as well, thanks to Carter’s life lessons.

7 Worst: Morris Buttermaker (The Bad News Bears)

The original Bad News Bears film released in the 70s became a beloved movie for anyone of the era. Morris Buttermaker was the team manager forced to coach the little league team of the worst players in the league.

The selfish nature of Buttermaker sees him drinking in the dugout in between yelling at the kids. Buttermaker recruits under the radar kids with stronger talents to join the team. The end of the movie does give us the payoff of Buttermaker, realizing he went too far, but he did so many awful things before the self-realization.

6 Best: Tony D'Amato (Any Given Sunday)

Any Given Sunday is often described as a top tier underrated football movie. Al Pacino specifically stands out for his performance as head coach Tony D’Amato in the film. The story sees D'Amato clashing with the team owner, and a coordinator expected to replace him throughout the season. His memorable speech in the film makes him an all-time great coach character.

D'Amato both stays true to his vision but also makes some changes against his instincts for the betterment of the team. They fall just short in the championship game, but D'Amato reveals the best swerve at the end when announcing he’s going to coach the new expansion team and is taking quarterback Willie Beamen with him.

5 Worst: Edwina Franklin (Eddie)

The actual NBA teams and league are a huge part of the Whoopi Goldberg film Eddie. Goldberg plays a diehard New York Knicks fan named Eddie frustrated with the lazy and selfish play of the team. The desperate owner runs a contest for a fan to become the head coach if making a half-court shot, and Eddie does it.

Most of the movie shows the story of how badly things will go if a fan becomes the head coach of a pro team with no experience. 4 Best: Lou Brown (Major League)

One of the most common tropes in a sports movie is the coach having to rally together an overlooked group of outcasts to win against all odds. Major League was the best baseball movie to showcase this with the managing style of Lou Brown.

The Cleveland Indians owner wants to sell the team and intentionally tries to deliver a terrible season. Brown instead inspires the young and old talents to get their opportunity on a team with no expectations. The coaching work of Brown saw him step when needed but also letting the team learn from their own mistakes.

3 Worst: Coach Klein (The Waterboy)

Adam Sandler found success by entering the sports movie world with The Waterboy film. The role of Coach Klein was played by the legendary Henry Winkler. Klein was down on his luck with a 40-game losing streak until discovering the hidden talent of Sandler’s character Bobby Boucher.

The skills of Boucher allow Klein to pile up some victories and save his coaching career. Klein becomes a character worth rooting for and Winkler is always likable in comedic roles, but this was clearly a bad coach. You can’t lose 40 games in a row and avoid the worst all-time movie coaches!

2 Best: Herman Boone (Remember The Titans)

The legendary Denzel Washington took on a coaching role based on the true story of Herman Boone. Remember the Titans is a film that focuses on issues like racism, race relations, and the resistance of civil rights in the 70s through the story of a football team.

Many players, students, and residents are unhappy when Boone receives the head coaching job. Washington delivers a beautiful performance that both relays the importance of the show and gives us great sports movie drama. The movie did the story of Boone quite well with positive reviews and new viewers still loving it today.

1 Worst: Roy McCormick (Rebound)

Any movie that stars Martin Lawrence as the head coach of a basketball team is likely going to end in disaster. Lawrence’s comedy is often a slam dunk, but Rebound was an airball with the abysmal Rotten Tomatoes score of 14% positive reviews.

Roy McCormick loses his job as a college basketball coach for various moments of losing his temper negatively impacted the game. The story sees McCormick rediscovering his love for basketball by coaching his old junior high team. No coach struggles such a drop in drastic fashion without having a reputation as the worst in his field!

Star Wars: 5 Ways The Rise of Skywalker Is Better Than Avengers: Endgame (& 5 Why It’s Worse)

There are many similarities between Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Both of these movies are the culmination of many movies before them in a hugely popular franchise. While their individual receptions differ in more ways than one, it can't be denied that these two movies definitely marked the end of major eras in pop culture.

Both Endgame and Skywalker relied heavily on nostalgia and the strong emotions many fans have for the series.  Also, both tried to wrap up story arcs for many characters, and both movies were notable for having some major plot issues but focusing on special effects just for the "wow" factor. While they were both extremely popular and had lots of similarities, there are some ways Endgame was better than Rise of Skywalker and some ways it was worse. Here are the reasons why the Avengers' finale was better than Star Wars, and what Star Wars did better.

10 Better: There weren’t as many characters to focus on

One problem with Avengers: Endgame is that the cast of characters was so large. While there were fewer characters to focus on than in Avengers: Infinity War, there were still many character arcs that had to be wrapped up and many characters that came back into the story for the final battle.

Most of the focus in Rise of Skywalker was on the three main heroes: Rey, Finn, and Poe as well as Kylo Ren. This made for a little bit more focused time given to each of them.

9 Worse: The pacing was really off

Given how much happened in Rise of Skywalker and that it could even be confusing at times, it’s strange that parts of the movie felt very slow-moving. The first half of the movie dragged in moments and seemed to struggle to build momentum.

This means that the last half of the film felt jam-packed with action and information, and it was a little bit jarring. A more evenly paced movie would have been easier to watch. Endgame wasn’t perfect in this way either, but it was better organized.

8 Better: It didn’t kill off its main female character, just sidelined them

One big criticism that has been made against Endgame was how it handled its female characters, especially Black Widow. As she was one of the only women actually focused on in this film, and the only one of the original six Avengers who wasn’t a white man, the fact that they killed her off sat wrong with many people.

Her death didn’t even get much of a send-off in the same way that Tony Starks’ did. While Skywalker also has issues with its handling of female characters, especially with how they basically removed Rose Tico from the narrative, it didn’t kill them off at least.

7 Worse: The deaths didn’t seem to mean anything

If you watch Rise of Skywalker more than once, you’ll likely notice that there are a lot of death fake outs. While this is rarely a great storytelling device, using it more than once in the same movie is way too much. This happened to Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, and, in a way, C-3PO.  Because of this, it felt like the idea of death in the universe didn’t hold a lot of weight.

Meanwhile, Endgame had two major deaths that had some major ramifications. While Black Widow's sacrifice could be underwhelming to some, it's universally agreed that Tony Stark's was handled perfectly. Their deaths will be felt for a long time to come in both the movies and among fans.

6 Better: While it had "No Homo" moments, these weren’t as bad as Endgame's

Disney is continually facing heat for its lack of LGBT+ representation in its movies. Many fans have pointed out that every time they say they will have representation, it ends up being a minor character in a throwaway moment that can easily be edited out. Many felt that Poe and Finn’s storylines were done in a way to directly make it seem like they weren’t gay - despite all evidence to the contrary.

However, Endgame did an even worse job than Star Wars. It took its most popular and subtextual queer ship - Steve and Bucky - and didn’t let them interact except for Steve to abandon him. At the very least, Poe and Finn got to interact like close friends.

5 Worse: It didn’t feel like much of an ending

Given that both of these movies come out of big franchises that are ongoing, it’s hard to ever feel like anything is a true ending. Both of these franchises will continue to have stories in the form of comics, movies, and more.

However, Endgame was more upfront with the fact that this wasn’t a final movie but just a wrap-up for the current crop of storylines. While Skywalker tried to bill itself as the final installment, it’s a bit hard to take that claim seriously.

4 Better: The heroes actually get to be friends

One thing that many fans have been frustrated about in regards to the MCU is the lack of friendship bonds between the heroes, especially the Avengers - ironic, given that they're the MCU's flagship team. Given that the interpersonal conflict between these characters is often more interesting than the actual villains, there have been very few moments of love and camaraderie between them.

In contrast, Skywalker actually did a great job of showing that Finn, Rey, and Poe cared about each other a lot. Their emotion and loyalty to one another were obvious, and it made it easier to root for them.

3 Worse: The plot was harder to follow

Both of these films' plots had glaring issues. They both had a wealth of plot contrivances and holes that fans just had to accept and go along with in order for the movie to work. Given that it can be difficult to wrap up storylines that have been building for years, some of this is excusable.

However, too much of these moments can be frustrating. Rise of Skywalker did a slightly worse job because it was a little hard to follow along. While Endgame had some issues, the basic conceit was straightforward enough and more focused.

2 Better: The main characters get endings that make sense for their arcs

The character arcs for many characters in both movies weren’t perfect. In Skywalker, characters like Finn didn’t get the attention they deserved, and Rey’s arc was somewhat sacrificed for Kylo Ren to get a better one. However, in Skywalker, the main heroes did get mostly happy endings and had arcs that gave room for growth in the future.

In Endgame, many main characters got screwed over. Black Widow died, and Steve Rogers got sent to the past in a way that made no sense for how the character had been portrayed up to that point.

1 Tie: The romances were a mess

When it comes to romance and shipping, both movies were a bit of a disaster. Both of these movies refused to include any real LGBT+ representation even when it would have been easy to do so.

Even with the actors rooting for it, Finn and Poe weren't made canon, and many people were bothered by the way the Rey and Kylo relationship went down. On the other hand, Endgame made the most awkward choice to shoehorn Peggy into the narrative as if Steve had lost her in The Snap.

What's even more bizarre is that everyone in the world has a memory of a time where their acting job was good enough to fool the adults around them, but once you become a teen or adult it seems easy to see through these hilariously ham-handed ruses.

7 It Ain't Easy Being Green

As awesome as baby Yoda is, there seem to be some pretty glaring issues with the way he has to live his life. Of course there is the fact that everything in every Star Wars world appears to be far too large for him to feasibly function in, and there is also the fact that no one around him even knows his name.

But there is also the issue that his childhood lasts longer than most lifespans of other sentient beings, so he's stuck being traded off to different parents multiple times.

6 Desperate For Love

According to many scientists, cats often times understand what the people around them want, they just don't really care about it. However, anyone who has ever owned or even been near a cat could have probably told them this fact without having to waste all of the money on a scientific study.

4 Childhood Trauma

Introducing a child to the concept of school is a tough one, since by the time their only caregiver is dumping them off at a strange building full of strange people their children have barely even developed object permanence.

But you've got to cut the cord sometime, and luckily tiny children are too slow and their legs are too short to catch up with you once you've initially abandoned them. And it might hurt their feelings now, but they'll barely remember it in a few years time anyway.

3 The Eternal Struggle

Optimizing use of space is something that is essential for any normal human living, but one does have to ask the question, why is it that the top shelves are almost universally impossible to reach for most people?

Yes, step stools are a thing, but there is something inherently confounding about the fact that storage spaces are designed to be difficult to use. And that is especially true for shelves in stores, because there will never be products in a store that regular people shouldn't have easy physical access to, right?

Now we don't advocate for physical violence in any circumstance, however both of the competitors for the final choccy milk in this scenario should be a little more aggressive if they want to come up a winner.

I mean, we all live in a universe where the Force is just a widely known fictional phenomenon, and still every little kid attempts to manifest Force powers at some point. So imagine what it would be like to live in a world where Force powers are actually real, and to then discover that you in fact do have Force powers.

Lawrence of Arabia Has a Forgotten Sequel Starring Ralph Fiennes

Lawrence of Arabia remains one of the most critically acclaimed and well known movies of all time; however, many people don't know that it has a sequel starring Ralph Fiennes. Originally released in 1962, Lawrence of Arabia received ten Academy Award nominations, winning seven, including Best Picture and Best Director for David Lean. Receiving several theatrical and home media releases over the years, including a restored director's cut, Lawrence of Arabia's legendarily long run time fluctuates between three and almost four hours, clocking in at 227 minutes on one blu-ray edition.

The historical drama Lawrence of Arabia starred Peter O'Toole as T.E. Lawrence, following the real-life story of the English officer working with Arab tribes in their revolt against the Turks during World War I, as it's described in his book Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The film also featured Star Wars' Alec Guinness as Prince Faisal (Faisal I bin Hussein bin Ali al-Hashemi) who would eventually become King of the Arab Kingdom of Syria and then King of Iraq. There have been questions of historical accuracy regarding events and parts of Lawrence's personal life, but at the very least, it is a gateway into his time in the Ottoman Empire and his involvement with the establishment of the Arab National Council. There was, however, more story to tell.

Almost thirty years later, a follow up to Lawrence of Arabia was made for British television. 1990's A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia originally aired on ITV and later on PBS around the time the original film was re-released in theaters. This time around, Harry Potter cast member Ralph Fiennes played Lawrence, while Alexander Siddig, star of Game of Thrones and Gotham, took over as Faisal.

The made-for-TV movie depicts Lawrence and Faisal's time at the Paris Peace Conference following World War I, where decisions were made about territories formerly part of the Ottoman Empire. The two men found their bond tested as they dealt with the British and French governments opposing Arab independence, and the celebrity that fell upon Lawrence as they took their grievances public. While this sequel isn't nearly as well known as the original, it would prove to be important to the film's two leads. Ralph Fienne's portrayal of Lawrence led to his casting in director Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List and Siddig (credited as Siddig El Fadil) was asked to audition for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and was eventually cast as Dr. Julian Bashir.

Both T.E. Lawrence and Faisal were complicated men with a complicated relationship that deserved further explanation beyond what was shown in Lawrence of Arabia. It is nearly impossible for A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia to live up to the standards of the original movie, but at least it served as a stepping stone toward success for both Ralph Fiennes and Alexandar Siddig.

Batman & Joker's Relationship is About To Change Forever

Some men aren't looking for anything logical. Some men just want to watch the world burn. While this may have been Joker's goal and mindset at one point, his first interaction with Batman must have altered that perception. While the desire for chaos to fuel his twisted laughter remains, Joker found a foil in Batman. Someone to share in the joke. Thus began a relationship that rarely shifts course: Joker instigates a crime for laughs or does something to cause pain for Batman, and Batman retaliates, beating him and sending him to Arkham behind bars, only for Joker to break out and continue the running gag. However, at some point, the punchline must come and the last laugh must be had, and Joker War just may be the final curtain.

While Joker seemed to be content with holding off the last laugh (to keep the fun going), recent events seem to have convinced him to make his move. Joker War is coming, which promises to feature Joker making a play for the punchline, going after Batman (and Bruce Wayne) in a final confrontation that only one of them may come out of alive. With Batman finding love with Catwoman, Joker seems to fear that the newfound happiness Batman carries may ruin his own relationship with Batman. He even went so far as to try and convince Selina Kyle to not marry Batman during their engagement, saying that Batman would cease to exist if he had happiness (which in part does prevent her from going through with the marriage initially). However, Batman and Catwoman are still together, and Joker can't be happy about it.

Furthermore, Superman has recently revealed his secret identity to the world, seeking to be his true self at all times. It's a game-changing move for Kal-El, but one that Batman probably won't imitate any time soon. However, Joker seems to be worried that Batman could reveal his secret identity all the same. Joker himself has known that Batman is Bruce Wayne for quite some time. However, he's done nothing with that information for the sake of keeping the running gag of their relationship going until now. Joker War promises that Joker will be fighting both Batman and Bruce Wayne equally, meaning that their next fight will be more personal than ever before.

It doesn't matter what version of Joker it is. It's clear he has never wanted to compromise his relationship with Batman. The Dark Knight Joker tells Batman that they're the unstoppable force and immovable object, destined to be together forever. The animated series version of Joker becomes disheartened when he hears that Batman might have died: "Without Batman, crime has no punchline." Even Lego Joker in The Lego Batman Movie is desperate to make Batman see their relationship in the way that he does, one that is special and more important than any other relationship either of them has. Most recently in the animated Harley Quinn series, Scarecrow unmasks Batman, revealing his identity as Bruce Wayne, thinking that that's what Joker would want him to do. Instead, Joker kills him for it, as he's now ruined an important part of their relationship: the mystery.

The point is this: Joker is going have the last laugh and end the running gag not just because he thinks it would be fun. He's doing it in part because he feels as though circumstances are forcing his hand. If he doesn't act now, something critical will change for Batman that might jeopardize Joker's chances for a punchline at all. Joker believes it to be the right time to enact his final performance, regardless of whether or not he's the one who lives at the end. Batman vs. Joker has always been one of the enduring rivalries of current pop culture. It's exciting to see that rivalry head into uncharted waters, even if it does end with one of their deaths (which it probably won't). These are two of the biggest comics characters of all-time after all.

Batman #93 starts the official "Joker War" on April 15th, 2020.
