Fuller House: Hallmark Needs To Make A Saving Thanksgiving Spinoff

Hallmark should take on Fuller House's suggestion to make a Saving Thanksgiving spinoff. Netflix's Full House sequel wrapped up after five seasons with its final nine episodes releasing in June 2020. While there's no word yet if Fuller House season 6 will happen, fans might still be able to see some of the cast back together if Hallmark picks up the idea of a seasonal movie for TV idea for Thanksgiving.

True to Full House traditions, Fuller House tackled some holidays throughout its run. It's a great excuse to bring everyone together, especially the older cast - Danny (Bob Saget), Jesse (John Stamos), and Joey (Dave Coulier) who now live in their respective homes. Fuller House season 5 decided to tackle Thanksgiving with episode 12, "Cold Turkey", seeing all of the cast members gather in the Tanner family home for dinner. For the first time, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) is tasked to create dinner. When she refuses any help, DJ (Candace Cameron-Bure) gets obsessed with fool-proofing by cooking her feast in case her sister messes up.

DJ enlisted the help of her then-fiancĂ© Steve (Scott Weinger), who secretly delivers his microwave to the boys' bedroom. DJ emphasizes how important it is that they're "saving thanksgiving" when she suddenly pulls up her phone and creates a voice note saying: "idea for Hallmark movie: Saving Thanksgiving." Fans of Cameron-Bure quickly recognize the bit as a meta-comment about the actress' gig as Hallmark's Christmas Queen, leading several of the network's TV movies for the season such as Moonlight & Mistletoe, Journey Back to Christmas, Switched for Christmas and A Shoe Addict's Christmas. This year, she's set to appear in Christmas Town. Unfortunately, the Fuller House bit isn't a tease for an upcoming project; instead, it's just a fun detail the writers added into the final season.

That being said, Hallmark should pick up on Fuller House's idea and make the project their new Thanksgiving offering. The network is already churning Christmas films for TV, and they can expand their holiday offerings by beginning early with Thanksgiving with Cameron-Bure and other notable faces from Fuller House. Granted, they're also doing Thanksgiving content, but it's not on the same level as their Christmas line-up; doing Saving Thanksgiving could change that.

Aside from starring in their Christmas projects, not to mention playing the lead in the ongoing Aurora Teagarden series, Cameron-Bure is also a producer on them. With an established relationship with Hallmark, she could properly pitch this idea, should Hallmark ask for a proposal. Aside from Cameron-Bure, Sweetin also frequently appears in the channel's holiday films, having starred in 2017's Finding Santa and Entertaining Christmas. With DJ and Stephanie being the two main players of the Fuller House Thanksgiving plotline, it would be fairly easy to bring both Cameron-Bure and Sweetin together for the Hallmark spinoff. It doesn't necessarily have to directly adapt the premise established in the Netflix series, but it would be fun to see Hallmark take the idea and make it their own - perhaps Weinger can even appear.

Cameron-Bure and Sweetin are not the only Fuller House actors who have ties with Hallmark, either. Lori Loughlin, who plays Aunt Becky in Full House and its sequel spinoff, has also been a staple in the network until she was fired last year for her involvement in the national college scandal. If she's not entangled with the ongoing case, it would've also been nice to see her in Hallmark's potential Saving Thanksgiving offshoot.
