Killing Eve : 10 Characters Eve Should End Up With (Other Than Villanelle)

Killing Eve is one of those shows that manages to cast a powerful spell from the first episode. Starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, it is largely about the cat-and-mouse game that their characters play with one another. Oh is the titular Eve, an MI5 recruited by MI6 to pursue Comer’s Villanelle, a ruthless assassin with a flair for the dramatic.

Each season sees the two characters drawn closer and closer to one another, as each of them recognizes that there is something about their inner selves that is complemented by the other. However, it’s worth considering which of the other characters Eve should pursue, rather than the assassin that so consistently draws her attention.

10 Carolyn

Carolyn is one of the series’ most enigmatic figures. She’s the one who ultimately recruits Eve to be part of MI6, but she constantly withholds information, largely for her own reasons.

She has a very volatile relationship with Eve, who never seems sure whether she can trust her. However, there’s also an undeniable spark between the two of them, and it would be exciting and intriguing to see how a relationship between the two of them would work out.

9 Niko

Niko is, of course, Eve’s husband at the beginning of the series and, so far as the viewer knows, they’re still married. Things have been incredibly difficult between the two of them, however, as Eve has largely sacrificed their marital happiness in her pursuit of Villanelle.

It’s worth thinking about the possibility that they might still end up together, however. For all that he’s suffered because of his association with Eve, Niko might still feel a bit of love for her, and it’s pretty clear that Eve has at least some measure of affection for him.

8 Konstantin

The brilliance of this series is that it manages to create so many fascinating characters, most of whom constantly keep something of themselves back from the viewer. Konstantin is exemplary in this regard.

A devoted handler for the Twelve (the nameless organization who employs Villanelle), he also appears to have been a lover of Carolyn’s. He also seems to have more than a little bit of a bond with Eve, and it’s fun to think that the two of them might make a strange sort of relationship work.

7 Hugo

From the moment that he appeared on-screen, Hugo impressed with his rakish good looks and sharp wit. It also turned out that he and Eve had a little liaison while they were in Rome. Though he didn’t make an appearance in the third season-since he’d been shot but survived in the second-it still seemed like he carried a bit of a flame for Eve.

More importantly, if Eve got together with him at least she wouldn’t have to worry about being shot or stabbed in the middle of the night.

6 Dasha

Harriet Walter is simply brilliant as Dasha, a former gymnast turned assassin who appears in the third season. While she ultimately dies (at Eve’s hands, no less), it’s still fun to think about what might have happened had she lived and had her and Eve gotten together.

It’s entirely possible that she would have exerted the same pathological hold over the other woman as Villanelle and, just as importantly, it would have been interesting to see more of the chemistry between Oh and Walter.

5 Helen Jacobsen

The brilliance of a series like Killing Eve is that it manages to imbue even the most minor of characters with crackling energy. Take, for example, Helen Jacobsen, who has appeared only once (as Carolyn’s superior).

It helps of course that she’s played by ZoĂ« Wannamaker, but she has such powerful charm and charisma, and such a no-nonsense attitude, that one can’t help but think she’d make a great partner for Eve, if only because she’d help keep her out of trouble.

4 Kenny

This one is, admittedly, a little out-there, especially since Kenny met his rather sad death at the beginning of the third season. However, it’s worth saying that there was definitely a bond between him and Eve, one that could possibly have flourished into some sort of a romance.

Unlike so many of the other characters, he actually seemed to care about Eve and what happened to her and, most importantly, he wanted to bring out the best in her. His premature death is one of the series’ saddest what-ifs?

3 Elena

Elena is another of those characters that only appeared for a brief time. She was essentially Eve’s assistant, and in that role, she brought a fair amount of balance to Eve’s rather hectic persona.

Though the audience hasn’t seen her for quite some time, she is definitely one of those people who could have kept Eve from going completely off of the rails, providing her with some much-needed grounding and stability (as opposed to Villanelle’s instability).

2 Bear

Bear is one of those charming characters that seem to always inhibit the world of this series. One of the people who work with Kenny after he leaves MI6, he has a sort of irreverent sense of humor and often seems like something of a slob.

However, there does seem to be a good heart beneath all of his tomfoolery, and he would also remind Eve of the fact that there are brighter, better things in life than the murder and chaos that Villanelle represents.

1 Jamie

Lastly, there’s Jamie, Kenny’s, and Bear’s boss. He is something of a voice of reason in the third season of the show, always trying to remind Eve of the consequences of what she’s doing.

While he doesn’t have a huge part to play in the narrative, what the audience sees of him is enough to show that he could make a good counterpart for Eve, the kind of person who would, hopefully, keep her from giving in to her worst impulses (which she has a frustrating tendency to do).
