Gloria Delgado-Pritchett is part of the crazy, lovable family that makes up Modern Family. After meeting Jay Pritchett at a diner, the two fell in love and he introduced her to his world. Hailing from Columbia as a single mother, Gloria is now the wealthy and successful woman she always dreamt of being.
Over 11 seasons, Gloria has transformed as both a woman and a mother. She and Jay switched roles with her going back to work and Jay taking a crack at being a stay-at-home dad. With so much going on over the years, there are plenty of things fans had forgotten about the one and only Gloria Pritchett.
10 Her Past Careers
In later seasons of Modern Family, Gloria created her own hot sauce business as a way to contribute to the family and make something of herself. She was tired of everyone thinking the only thing she brought to the table was her stunning good looks. Towards the end of the series, Gloria was on her way to becoming a successful realtor with the help of Phil. Before falling in love with Jay, however, Gloria used to be both a cab driver and a hairstylist. Being a cab driver perplexed fans but it fit her narrative. During the day she would style hair and by night she would drive the cab with Manny sleeping in the seat beside her.
9 Sonia Isn't Her Only Sibling
Sonia was introduced a handful of times in the series. She's Gloria's younger sister and Gloria treats her with kid gloves. If it weren't for Sonia, Gloria wouldn't have had the opportunity to live in the States and have her life forever changed. But Sonia isn't the only sibling Gloria has.
Gloria has two unnamed brothers that were never seen on the show, but thanks to her stories of them growing up, it's safe to say her brothers are involved with some risky business. In one episode, Jay is having trouble with his nemesis Earl Chambers and Gloria gives him shady advice: grab two knives and place them on the table to see if killing each other is the solution.
8 She Used To Be A Beauty Queen
Just by looking at Gloria, it shouldn't be a surprise that she was involved with the beauty pageant world. She gets noticed everywhere she goes and is constantly asked if she's Jay's gorgeous daughter instead of his wife. However, this little fact was never brought up until season four in "Yard Sale." It wasn't until Manny and Luke found her ventriloquist dummy named Uncle Grumpy that the cat was out of the bag. Gloria looked ashamed when the boys brought out Uncle Grumpy, which could be why he was never brought up again.
7 She Lived In Florida & Texas Before Moving To California
Gloria talks about her culture and family traditions a lot because she wants Manny and Joe to keep them with them as they grow. Knowing how serious Gloria is about family, it would have been nice to see more of her home-life or where she lived before becoming Mrs. Delgado-Pritchett.
In the episode "Goodnight Gracie," viewers find out that Gloria didn't always live in California after moving from Columbia; she also lived in Texas and Florida. In fact, Manny was born in Florida.
6 A Very Troubled Wedding
Gloria and her first husband Javier had a very troublesome marriage. They had a whirlwind romance that was filled with fighting and passion. Manny was conceived from their relationship but it was soon after that Javier bolted. Gloria and Javier divorced and she despised him ever since. But one crazy thing that happened at Gloria and Javier's wedding that is often forgotten is their ceremony. In "The Incident," Gloria said her ceremony was cut short after drug dealers barged in, killed the judge, and left. It makes it even sadder that her wedding to Jay was also interrupted by a very drunk DeDe.
5 How Many Cousins Does She Have Again?!
Jay calls them "the Columbians" but Gloria calls them her family. There have been multiple times that Gloria has mentioned different family members but it's hard to keep track because there are so many! In total, Gloria has 29 cousins. What's impressive is that in "The Musical Man," Gloria knows every single one of their names. A few of them have been shown on camera but not much is known about them. Armando was shown in "American Skyper" where he was staying with Gloria and Jay. Sadly, that was a mistake on Gloria's part because he was silently stealing from them.
4 She's Younger Than Claire
One thing that isn't brought up enough in Modern Family is the fact that Claire is older than Gloria. A stepdaughter is older than her stepmother. Sure, quips about Gloria's gorgeous physique are mentioned often to Claire but there aren't too many jokes about Claire being older than her father's wife. In "After The Fire," it's mentioned that Gloria is a full 14 months younger than Claire.
3 She Has A Dangerous Heirloom
Fans have seen Gloria's excellent shot with a gun a few times in the series. In "Manny Get Your Gun," she shoots Manny's pool float. In "Virgin Territory," she joins Claire at the shooting range. And she also shoots Jay in the foot so they could get out of going to Lily's soccer game. Growing up in Columbia surrounded by the cartel, Gloria has clearly had some practice with a gun; so much so that her family gave her the family heirloom for Joe's christening: a family gun.
2 Alex Dug Personal Information Out Of Her
In the episode "Come Fly With Me," Alex needs to go shopping but doesn't want to go with her mom. Gloria takes charge and takes her to lunch first. Alex attempts to ask Gloria a string of questions to see if she really could talk to her about anything. The first question she asked was how many men she slept with, to which Gloria responded, "8. Next?" Impressed, Alex continued on. Gloria also admitted she has two tattoos (one on her ankle and one on her thigh).
1 Her Maiden Name
Gloria either answers to Mrs. Delgado (for Manny's sake) or to Mrs. Delgado-Pritchett. What's never brought up is her maiden name: Ramierez. After meeting her mother, Pilar Ramirez, and her sister, Sonia Ramirez, fans now know that in Gloria's previous life before children was as Gloria Marie Ramirez.
