WWE fans think Roman Reigns has an Infinity Gauntlet tribute. Reigns, real name Leati Joseph “Joe” Anoa’i, made his dynamic return to the ring in August at WWE’s SummerSlam PPV event. He’d taken a hiatus from television and performance since the Covid-19 outbreak. Upon his comeback, attacking both The Fiend and Braun Strowman after their Universal Championship match, many noticed a stark and sinister change in Reigns’s character.
Reigns hails from a professional wrestling dynasty family that includes Sika Anoa’i (his father) and Afa (his uncle), who made up The Wild Samoans, and his late brother Rosey. Additionally, he's cousins with Yokozuna, Rikishi, Umaga, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Jimmy and Jey Uso. Reigns would recapture the Universal championship at the following PPV, WWE Payback, and immediately after that enter into a deeply personal rivalry with cousin Jey. Reigns defeated Jey and retained his title at last month’s Clash of Champions, thus setting up their rematch at Hell in a Cell on Sunday night.
As reported by ComicBook.com, fans noticed Reigns sporting a gold wrist guard on his right hand Sunday (as opposed to his usual black), which appeared to resemble the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos most famously wields the omnipotent Marvel weapon, powered by the Infinity Stones. In the MCU, The Mad Titan uses the Gauntlet to obliterate half the life in the universe. It would be a fitting accessory for the merciless Reigns, who now calls himself the “Tribal Chief” and positions himself at the head of his legendary family’s table. Here’s a look, courtesy of WWE on BT Sport on Twitter and WWE Universe:
Reigns and Jey’s feud has been one of the brightest spots on WWE’s Friday Night Smackdown on Fox in recent months, introducing new dimensions to both superstars and bringing out the best, performance-wise, in one another. MCU lore states that to gain the Soul Stone, it demands the sacrifice of one that you love. From Reigns’ cold destruction of his cousins at Hell in a Cell, it would appear that he’s acquired that final stone, completing the Infinity Gauntlet as well as his full turn over to the dark side.
