The Fantastic Four's Greatest Secret Was Just Exposed By Doom

Warning: contains spoilers for Fantastic Four #25!

Doctor Doom may have once been Reed Richards' nemesis, but enough time has passed, and enough schemes have been foiled, that Doom now hates the entire Fantastic Four family (all except Valeria Richards, his super-intelligent god-daughter, of course.) So imagine his glee in Fantastic Four #25 when he gets to expose the team's greatest secret - one most of them weren’t even clued in on. Invisible Woman has been working as an undercover agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. and meeting with Nick Fury in secret!

The latest issue of Fantastic Four - which is written by Dan Slott with art by Will Robson, Paco Medina, and R.B. Silva - unveils this revelation as the latest point of conflict within Marvel’s favorite superhero family. However, with such high stakes, Doctor Doom’s attempt to divide the Fantastic Four is unsuccessful.

In issue #25, it’s revealed that Susan Richards has been meeting with Nick Fury to accept missions from S.H.I.E.L.D. behind her family’s back. Fury had rightly assumed that Invisible Woman would be the organization’s perfect spy, putting her on an assignment to sneak into New York’s Latverian Embassy to investigate a series of break-ins occurring across the world. While inside the embassy, she had no idea that Doctor Doom was also in the building, with the same exact mission. Since Doom was more than familiar with Susan’s presence, he knew right away that she was nearby. Moments later, Doom had the chance to confront his old foe, rightly assuming that the rest of her family weren’t aware what she was up to.

Meanwhile, the person behind the break-ins - a cosmic being known as Cormorant - was in the process of getting his hands on something which had been hidden away in secret by Reed Richards: Zero Force, an energy that existed before the creation of reality, with the potential to annihilate the universe. After Cormorant released Zero Force, Susan and Doctor Doom were forced into a compromised position, with no other option than to team up. Soon, Susan and Reed’s daughter Valeria Richards came to the rescue, saving all of reality by turning Zero Force into a gate.

Even though Susan’s work as a spy was only an extension of her heroics as a member of the Fantastic Four, it still had the capacity to irk her husband, who has long been known to have issues with the organization. While they looked out at the gate, Reed finally had the chance to ask how long Susan’s venture as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D had been going on. While the question wasn't answered, fans know that Susan was with S.H.I.E.L.D during the events of the "Time Runs Out" Avengers story which led up to 2015's Secret Wars, and her own self-titled 2019 series suggested connections which go back even further. Now, the Fantastic Four have to deal with yet another secret that was kept from the team, and Doctor Doom can luxuriate in a personal victory against the Invisible Woman.
