Dicey Dungeons Launches On Nintendo Switch With a 10% Discount

Nintendo surprised everyone yesterday with an indie games presentation full of new games to check out on Switch, but one slipped through the cracks in the form of Dicey Dungeons. A dice-rolling roguelike created by Super Hexagon and VVVVVVV creator Terry Cavanagh and Distractionware Limited, Dungeons made its initial debut in August of last year on PC. The game received rave reviews for what ended up being a basic version, as Terry and his team have continued to release massive updates ever since. The game was never labeled as Early Access, but the updates rival what some games at this scale get after years of development.

Now, releasing alongside a slew of titles announced during Indie World, Dicey Dungeons has made its debut on Nintendo's compact platform with a 10 percent launch discount, as shared by developer Distractionware. It's being self-published by the original developer on the platform and features all the main content already pumped into the PC original. Just like that game, the Switch port will have players choosing one of several warriors turned dice to fight their way through a frantic games show. Each character has unique combat mechanics, making the game approachable but satisfyingly complex and perfect for short portable sessions.

Despite the old school indie cred of both of Cavanagh's previous works, Dicey Dungeons has already outsold both of them combined as far as PC releases go, and one hopes that the indie-hungry audience on Switch will react to the game in the same way. While the game is in the same neighborhood as the deckbuilding and roguelike genres, there's plenty in the gameplay that makes it stand on its own. Players tired of procedural dungeon crawlers and looting hundreds of the same monster may still find something to like in this charming and ominous game show/math hybrid.
