When the reality singing competition series The Masked Singer debuted in 2019, viewers were perplexed at the ridiculousness of it all. But once they started watching, it became a total guilty pleasure. Quickly, the series became a massive hit with individuals and entire families sitting down to watch, analyze the cryptic clues, and try to guess which celebrity was behind the elaborate costume.
After four seasons and a fifth on the way for 2021, it's no surprise that a spin-off has been confirmed. The Masked Dancer, based on a spoof of The Masked Singer that appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, will be hosted by Craig Robinson and feature a new judging panel that includes Paula Abdul, Ken Jeong, Brian Austin Green, and Ashley Tisdale. It will follow the same format as The Masked Singer except it will feature celebrities dancing instead of singing. Not surprisingly, Reddit users have been vocal with predictions and wish lists about the show, which is set to premiere on December 27. Many anxious fans have not only discussed who they think might be on the show but also who they'd like to see.
10 Britney Spears
This might be reaching for the stars, but one Redditor names several popular celebrities who not only sing but can also dance. Among them is Britney Spears, the pop icon who is arguably more famous for her level of performance, including dancing and elaborate music videos, than she is for her actual voice.
Spears has been making the social media rounds posting various videos of her dancing, so she is clearly still itching to perform. Could she end up on this show? It's unlikely but that hasn't stopped fans from wishing she might.
9 Jason Derulo
The same Redditor who names Spears also mentions Jason Derulo, a current pop star who might not necessarily be interested in donning a ridiculous costume and appearing on a show like this one.
That said, several very high-profile celebrities have shown up on The Masked Singer for various reasons, so he shouldn't be ruled out. And fans would certainly be shocked and pleased to see him unmask and reveal that he's behind a set of fancy feet.
8 Maddie Ziegler
Gaining fame for appearing on the Lifetime reality show Dance Moms, Ziegler really became a breakout star when she started dancing in Sia's music videos, including for the hit songs "Chandelier" and "Elastic Heart."
Fans believe they would be able to recognize her signature lines and moves. Or maybe, it would be the clues that give her away. Nonetheless, she's on the list as one of the celebrities that fans both want to and expect to see.
7 Twitch And Allison Holker
While one Redditor didn't outright say they wanted to see Twitch and Allison Holker on the show, they did suggest that tweets from the stars might hint that they have something to do with it.
Both Twitch, who currently works with Ellen DeGeneres (a producer on her show) and Holker competed on So You Think You Can Dance. And while not many dancers from that show have become household names, Twitch and Allison are better known than others. So, they would have a number of fans that might recognize their moves, especially if they dance and give clues together.
6 Kristin Chenoweth
She has been a guess many times on The Masked Singer, and her diminutive stature and recognizable voice might give her away on that show. But she's also a dancer, and a great one, at that, as one Redditor points out.
Chenoweth has the bubbly, happy-go-lucky personality that suggests she might be willing to do something crazy like being on this show.
5 Macaulay Culkin
Early clues suggest that one contestant is somehow associated with Christmas and some Redditors are guessing that it could be Macaulay Culkin given his iconic role in the classic Christmas movie Home Alone. Indeed, fans would love to see him appear.
Culkin has remained mostly out of the spotlight for decades, only recently surfacing and making fans laugh hysterically at his social media presence and quirky and eccentric personality. He has also been confirmed to be appearing in the next season of American Horror Story. There isn’t any reason the judges or viewers would be able to guess his identity by his dancing. But just like The Masked Singer has non-singers each season, chances are there will be a few celebrities who aren't necessarily dancers or known for dancing. So, Culkin is a possibility and a celebrity that fans would love to see on the show.
4 Bruno Mars
Another Redditor weighs in on the same conversation, suggesting that they think it could actually be Bruno Mars behind the mask.
Mars is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, and producer, but he is also well-known for his fantastic dancing and performances. Fans might very well recognize him as soon as he starts moving, but Mars would still be a solid addition to the show if they could convince him to go on.
3 Pitbull
When it comes to celebrities known for their signature dance moves, you can't get any more recognizable than Pitbull, Mr. Worldwide himself. And Redditors are guessing that some of the early clues might be suggesting him.
Pitbull is primarily a singer, of course. But all of his songs are designed to get people gyrating their hips and dancing up a storm. Any time Pitbull performs, it's a party. So, will he be on? Fans certainly hope so.
2 Mario Lopez
Lopez knows how to dance, and he has become known for his dancing because of Saved by the Bell as well as the reboot, where he re-created some of those signature '90s moves in a hilarious throwback scene. He also appeared on and came in second place on Dancing With the Stars.
Fans don't just want to see Lopez on the show – they're convinced he'll be one of the masked dancers on season one. One Redditor believes him to be the zebra.
1 Jojo Siwa
Should one Redditor's wish come true and Jojo Siwa appear on the show, she could be the first celebrity to be unmasked on both The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer.
She appeared on season three of The Masked Singer as the T-Rex. Siwa became famous for appearing on Dance Moms as well as for her music and YouTube channel.
