Stardew Valley Dev Says Major Update Could Still Come This Year

Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone says a new major update for the game could arrive by the end of 2020. As announced previously, the upcoming 1.5 version of the game will include split-screen multiplayer. It's even possible that there could be a new area for players to explore. Barone has even mentioned that banana trees will eventually make their way into the life sim and hinted at new end-game content and the reveal of what's behind a door in Willy's Fish Shop.

Perhaps the biggest addition to Stardew Valley since its initial release has been multiplayer, in which players can pick up a controller with a friend or family member and work on a collaborative farm. Throughout Stardew Valley, players meet various townsfolk, grow crops, upgrade their homes, get married, have a baby, and explore the cavernous mines for treasure. It's a game brimming with content, and it seems that it could be getting even more to do in the near future.

Responding to a fan's inquiry about version 1.5 of Stardew Valley, Barone said that the update might release this year on PC and other consoles in early 2021. Just looking at the numerous replies and quote tweets shows how eager fans are to play the latest version of the game. It's been a while since the latest addition to Stardew Valley, and fans can't wait to get their hands on version 1.5

Although fans have always known that version 1.5 was on its way, it was never clear just when it would arrive. Given that Barone (AKA ConcernedApe) is essentially a one-person team, every update requires tremendous work and time. There are so many components of the game to consider, right down to the music that Barone composed himself, as well. He's likely taken his time tweaking each factor of the update to ensure that it's the best it can be. He's become known to be quite the perfectionist, after all.

It seems that players' patience will soon be rewarded. Frankly, it's a bit strange to receive such a big announcement in the form of a Twitter reply to a random fan's question. However, Barone has been less about grandiose showmanship and more so about letting his game do the talking. It says a lot that Stardew Valley has come to occupy the cultural throne that it has. It's often regarded as not only one of the best games of the past generation, but also as one of the best life sim titles ever made. It looks like it's only getting better, as version 1.5 could be coming sooner than anticipated.
