The first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released with DLC in the form of three summoning materia: Carbunkle, Cactuar, and Chocobo Chick. This wasn't the end, though, as there were also various bits of equipment released for free through a promotion with Butterfinger. This DLC doesn't have much of an effect on how the game plays, however, beyond making earlier sections a bit easier, and there hasn't been any DLC since. Does that mean Square Enix won't be putting out any more DLC for this part of FF7 Remake?
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being released episodically, with the first part covering the original game's Midgar section. This doesn't seem to have hurt the game's popularity, as part one of FF7 Remake was well-received. But it does bring up some interesting questions about how future parts of the game will be developed. After all, part two will bring players out of Midgar and into a world that could be pretty different from what fans have already seen. With the series' future unclear, it's also worth asking whether Square Enix is making plans for PS5 content for part one. If not, then is the developer simply focusing on later parts and their DLC?
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Square Enix has any plans for more updates to the current Final Fantasy 7 Remake. This doesn't mean it's impossible for more DLC to come, especially since the PS5's recent release is a perfect excuse for more content. But in all likelihood, if anything does come out, it probably won't be anything majorly important to the story. If fans are wondering how this kind of DLC could look, there are a few games which have already managed to do this successfully.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a great example of how DLC could be added to Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Adding content like treasure chests and difficult trials throughout the world would be a perfect answer to making DLC that doesn't impact the story. These trials could take the form of new and challenging boss fights, especially with a character like Chadley there to introduce the bosses. Who knows - maybe a new boss could even share some of the notorious difficulty attributed to other FF7 bosses, like Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon.
Another way that Final Fantasy 7 Remake could do DLC is by adding another Final Fantasy character to the game. After all, the world of FF7 alone has plenty of interesting characters to draw from, some even being similar enough to the main cast that they could easily be put in as a purely cosmetic change, possibly as skins. There are many ways Square Enix could add DLC to the current Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but unless it announces something official, it looks like there won't be any more remake content - at least until the second part comes out. Fans shouldn't despair, though, as a lack of DLC might simply mean that the developers at Square Enix are focusing on the upcoming parts that much more, which could mean that they will turn out even better than part one.
