There he saw a man with a halo sitting behind a table waiting. As he approached the Saint looked up and Patrick saw two keys hanging around his neck on a chain, the keys to the pearly gates themselves. This must be St. Peter, Patrick thought.
''Hello Patrick. I just have to check through your past and ask you a few questions to make sure you can get in. If you can't, you'll have to do a few years in purgatory. Just wait a moment now'' he said when Patrick stopped in front of him.
As he rifled through the papers he mentioned many of the things Patrick had done both good and bad, until finally, he stopped on one particular page. ''I see here you played gaelic football for St Fintans and scored the winning goal against St Peters in a final''
''That's true'' said Patrick.
''But you cheated by pushing your marker away before the ball came, and tripped him so he couldn't follow you, allowing you to score the goal''
''Also true'' Patrick said nervously.
''Well then. I'll just open the gates and let you through.''
Delighted, Patrick stepped up to the gates and turned on his way in to say ''Thank you St Peter!'' The saint smiled back, laughing ''It's Peters day off'' he said ''I'm St Fintan''
