Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian season 2, episode 3, "The Heiress."
The Mandalorian season 2 introduced a terrifying new creature to the Star Wars live-action universe with the debut of the mamacore, a large sea monster. Episode 3, titled "The Heiress," took place on the estuary moon of Trask, which was full of horrors for Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and the Child. Soon after his recent battles against the krayt dragon and giant ice spiders, Din was forced to face off against another terrifying creature - but this time around he had fellow Mandalorians on his side.
Din successfully flew the badly damaged Razor Crest to its intended destination, allowing Frog Lady to reunite with her husband in the shipping port on Trask. While at a nearby inn, Din fell for a ploy orchestrated by local Quarrens, who assured him that there were Mandalorians nearby. They agreed to take him by boat, but in reality, they intended to kill him for his beskar armor. To carry out their plan, one of the fishermen pushed the Child's levitating pod into the feeding area of a large sea monster. Din then dove in after the Child as the creature swallowed his crib whole. Thankfully, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and her Mandalorian crew arrived just in time to save Din and the Child.
The sea monster in the focus of the sailing sequence was a mamacore, a never before seen creature in Star Wars canon. The carnivorous creature was regularly fed fish by the Quarren crew through an opening on the ship's deck. Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks) was the one to dive into the water to attack the massive monster while also retrieving the Child. Though he was unscathed, the pod was badly damaged. The Mandalorian didn't reveal a full look at the size of the mamacore, but it hinted at its massive size.
The concept art released along with "The Heiress" gave viewers another brief look at the mamacore's terrifying appearance. The art honed in on the mouth, in particular, focusing on its large circular maw with rows of circular teeth surrounded by a ring of even bigger fangs. Based on the size of the mouth, the mamacore's body would probably be equally overwhelming when encountering out in the open waters. While the mamacore had the ability to emerge from the waters like a ravinak, this new sea beast seemed to share more similarities with the infamous sarlacc. The mamacore not only carried a resemblance to the desert-dwelling monster, but also targeted prey the same way.
After the Mon Calamari dockworker fixed the Razor Crest, Din and the Child decided it was time to depart from Trask. The Mandalorian is on a new mission to find Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi that Bo-Katan assured would have answers regarding the Child's origins. While preparing for takeoff from the dock, a small sea creature with tentacles slithered over to the Child as if it found a new meal. Before the creature made an attempt to eat the infant, Din caught it and threw it into the sea. Interestingly enough, the small creature had the same kind of mouth as the mamacore, indicating that it might have been one of its babies. If that was the case, the mamacore might have also had dangerous tentacles or appendages, making The Mandalorian's new creature even more similar to the sarlacc.
