InnerSloth has partnered with Limited Run Games to release a physical Among Us Collector's Edition for PC. At $80, it's an expensive proposition for a game that's normally a $5 download on the platform, so buyers may want to know exactly what they're getting ahead of time. Some of the Among Us Collector's Edition's bundled items offer new content, while others are just for decoration.
Limited Run Games specializes in creating physical copies of games (and their soundtracks) that would otherwise only be available digitally. As the name suggests, these are usually only available in limited quantities. For instance, the company produced a limited run of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition for PS4 and Switch earlier this year, with several tiers of now-long-sold-out collector's editions to choose from.
The PC Collector's Edition of Among Us ships in a box shaped like the game's Emergency Button panel, according to Limited Run Games. In fact, the button itself is a removable, separate item that can be hit to trigger game-appropriate sound effects. Within the box is an ambient music CD, a disc containing concept art and interviews, and a reversible 18-by-24-inch poster, which sports a shushing white crewmate on one side and an ejected crewmate on the other. Also included is a SteelBook case featuring a red Impostor holding a knife behind its back, but this is presumably meant to hold the CD and bonus disc, as a physical copy of the game itself is not included.
Perhaps somewhat ironically, buyers must use one of the included download codes for Steam and Epic Games Store copies of Among Us to actually play the game. The reason, Limited Run Games said on Twitter, is DRM - possibly meaning business deals and extra development time would be needed to let users install the game offline. There's little point to having a DVD copy, though, since Among Us is limited to online multiplayer without mods. Most online games demand their clients be updated for security and feature purposes, and the game's deception tactics simply wouldn't work as intended in local, single-screen play.
Limited Run Games is opening preorders for the Among Us PC Collector's Edition on May 11 at 10 AM ET. Those who secure a copy should expect to wait a long time to receive it; after the six-week preorder window closes, it may take another three to six months for everyone to get their package. Those eager to play sooner will be better off paying $5 on PC or downloading the free mobile version.
