There is no doubt that Grey's Anatomy fans miss Cristina Yang. Having left for Zurich's Klausman Institute for Medical Research in season 10, she texted Meredith informing her that she had sent her a "package" from Europe. It turned out the package was a very skilled doctor who happened to be a McWidow, meaning he was available.
The text was a reminder of just how awesome Cristina was. The cardiothoracic surgeon was extremely competitive, always putting work above everything else. Apart from being a good doctor and a good friend to Meredith, she also carried herself as a cold and cutthroat doctor. This personality made her do things that both colleagues and fans found shocking.
10 She Accidentally Stabbed Alex With A Syringe
Cristina wasn't one to dilly-dally. Once, a patient named Susannah was taken into surgery. Under Callie's supervision, the residents treated her injuries but they soon began arguing on the best way to move forward. Susannah started bottom-lining so Cristina acted quickly by grabbing a scalpel and cut open the chest. Meanwhile, Alex was massaging Susannah's heart.
In a hurry, Christina grabbed a syringe full of epinephrine and directed it to the patient's heart without looking. In the process, she stabbed Alex's hand and injected him with the drug. The accidental action caused Alex's heart to stop. Luckily, the doctors performed emergency procedures and were able to restart it. As expected, Alex wasn't too happy when he regained consciousness.
9 She Helped Preston Hide His Injury
Preston Burke once got shot while entering the hospital. The bullet in his shoulder caused nerve damage to his hand. As a result, he experienced frequent tremors. Fearing that he might not be able to operate again, he and Cristina came up with a plan to hide the injury from their colleagues.
Cristina covered for Burke, even though this could have put the lives of patients at risk. Other residents began getting suspicious when Cristina began getting access to surgeries that would normally have been done by Burke. After a while, she decided to come clean to Chief Richard Webber.
8 Offering To Expose Izzie
After Denny's LVAD wire incident, a couple of residents were suspended and put under investigation. Izzie was the culprit and everyone knew it but they also knew how much Denny meant to her.
When it was Cristina's turn to be questioned, Richard Webber went for her weak spot. He was aware just how much she desired to be in the OR so he hinted at that. Instead, Cristina wanted to know the secret of how he normally kept his cool at all times. She promised that if he gave her the secret, she'd let him know who the culprit was. This was unexpected, given how close Cristina and Izzie were.
7 She Hid Her Pregnancy From Burke
After a random intimate encounter with Preston Burke, Cristina got pregnant. Strangely enough, she made the decision never to tell him about it as he had just broken up with her.
Cristina was eventually forced to come clean after she began having complications. During a thoracotomy surgery with Burke, she became overwhelmed with pain and collapsed. It was then revealed that she had an ectopic pregnancy. Thankfully, Burke was quite understanding when he found out.
6 Ruining Meredith's 3D Research
The friendship between Cristina and Meredith was tested in Season 10 when they began to argue about their careers. Cristina was excelling in surgery while Meredith had decided to focus on motherhood. Cristina didn't understand Meredith's decision as she didn't believe in being a parent. She went as far as to claim she was a better surgeon than Meredith.
At the height of their feud, Cristina wanted to use the 3D printer but realized that Meredith's research was in it. She asked Stephanie if they could just pause Meredith's work but was informed that such an action would ruin the research, Despite the warning, she went ahead and did it, messing up Meredith's work.
5 She Slept With Owen
Cristina was aware that Owen and Emma were about to take things to the next level. She discussed Emma with Meredith, telling Meredith that she had accepted the new turn of events. Her relationship with Owen was officially over. She also insisted that she wanted Owen to be happy.
However, instead of heading home that night, Cristina went to Owen's trailer with a bottle of wine. The two then proceeded to sleep together. This led to Owen breaking up with Emma.
4 She Denied A Patient His Wish For Privacy
Cristina's poor bedside manner was seen when a male patient who believed he was pregnant came to the hospital. The patient named Shane had a swollen belly and asked for privacy because he felt embarrassed about his situation but Cristina and Izzie wouldn't let him be alone.
Instead, they fought over the patient and charged other residents an admission fee to enter the room and see him. In addition to that, they took pictures with him as they found the whole situation to be amusing.
3 Choosing To Work At Joe's, aka Emerald City Bar
The aftermath of the hospital shooting saw most of the doctors struggling to work normally again. As hard as it was, everyone put in an admirable effort because they knew the patients needed them most. As for Cristina, she just wasn't able to work well anymore. Despite getting much-needed support from everyone and even being offered lighter duties, she decided to quit.
Everyone assumed she'd take some time off before returning but she chose to be a bartender at Joe's Bar, aka the Emerald City Bar. According to Joe, she was poor at her job so he had to let her go. Joe's words were definitely true since Cristina was often seen partying instead of working.
2 She Didn't Report The Intern Cabal
The "intern cabal" was a series of medical procedures that a couple of rogue interns performed on themselves because they felt the senior doctors weren't teaching them enough. When Lexie did impressive stitches in the OR, Richard complimented her, thinking Cristina had taught her. That's when Cristina realized what Lexie and her gang were up to.
Instead of reporting them, Cristina simply warned them to stop. They didn't and things almost turned tragic. Sadie let one of the other interns perform an appendectomy on her but things got complicated and she developed severe hemorrhaging. If it wasn't for Cristina, Meredith, and Bailey, things could have easily turned tragic.
1 She Named Interns After The Seven Dwarfs
In a show of arrogance, Cristina refused to memorize the names of interns in Season 9. She instead named each of them after the seven dwarfs from Snow White.
This made the interns hate her but she really didn't care. To her, they were kids who still had a lot to learn. Looking down on people was something Cristina had done several times before but this was a new low.
