Chris Evans Shows Off Gnarly Bruise From Gray Man Filming In New Photo

Chris Evans shared a photo of a gnarly bruise he got from filming The Gray Man. Joe and Anthony Russo were attached to write and direct an adaptation of Mark Greaney’s novel of the same name all the way back in 2014 when they were fresh off their MCU debut, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now that they have a few big-budget blockbusters under their belts, including the two highest-grossing movies in the MCU, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the Russo Brothers are helming the spy thriller for Netflix with a reported budget of $200 million.

The Gray Man stars Ryan Gosling as the main protagonist named Court Gentry, a veteran CIA operative who is blacklisted by the agency, forcing him to go on the run. Captain America star, Chris Evans, takes a villainous turn as Lloyd Hansen, a former CIA cohort of Gentry's who is tasked with chasing him down. The film also stars Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton, Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s Julia Butters. After some delays due to COVID, production of The Gray Man finally began in March 2021.

Now, Chris Evans has shared a photo of a gnarly bruise he got while filming the Russo Brothers production. "It’s like watching the leaves turn in autumn, but condensed into one painful afternoon,” Evans said in a caption, followed by, “(Got into a little tussle with the Gray Man)” which refers to Gosling's character in the film, Court Gentry. Check out Evans’ bruise below:

While The Gray Man is expected to be an espionage thriller that plays out on a global scale, Evans’ caption seems to indicate there will be some hand-to-hand combat between him and Gosling. Not much else is known about the plot of The Gray Man, but Joe Russo has said Evans will “get to flex quite a bit” in his villainous role after portraying such a well-known and beloved superhero for nearly a decade. Joe Russo also teased Evans’ villain as a “really unique” and “really interesting character.”

As Netflix’s most expensive feature film to date, The Gray Man naturally has the potential to be the streamer’s most successful tentpole yet. The film could even be another franchise starter for Evans and the Russos, as there are currently 9 more books worth of source material in Greaney’s series. Hopefully, Evans finishes the rest of production on The Gray Man unscathed.
