Resident Evil Village has a handful of weapons at the player's disposal, including a handgun, sniper rifle, and shotgun. Each weapon has its time and place. The handgun is used as a default close to medium range weapon with average power. The sniper rifle is great for powerful long-distance shots against multiple enemies, with the hope that they can all be taken down before they reach the player. The shotgun is most effective as a powerful close-range weapon and can be crucial in players' survival when enemies appear out of nowhere and close in quickly.
The shotgun is versatile and a great weapon choice to quickly dispatch common enemies as well as bosses throughout the game. There are two ways to get a shotgun early on in the game, and this guide will go over both methods.
Method One: Get the Shotgun For Free
The first method is the one recommended to every player as they begin their journey through Resident Evil Village. This method is not only a way to get the shotgun at the beginning of the game, but it is also free - no Lei required. At the start of the game, the player will be able to explore the map. During this time, the player can travel to Old East Town, just beyond a red gate that requires bolt cutters to open, but by now the player should have obtained them already. Go through the gate into Old East Town, and be prepared - a group of Lycans will attack and the player must survive the onslaught. Once the enemies have been defeated, travel to the westernmost house in Old East Town. Go into the house and there will be an M1897 Shotgun on the kitchen table inside. Grab the shotgun and it is now the players to do with what they will. Keep in mind that if the player misses this shotgun and proceeds to Castle Dimitrescu, they will not be able to come back to this part of the map until later in the game - do not miss out on this free shotgun.
Method Two: Pay For The Shotgun
The second method of obtaining the shotgun is to simply buy one from The Duke's Emporium. This method is good for those who have already gone to Castle Dimitrescu and missed the opportunity to grab the free shotgun discussed in the previous method from Old East Town. Of course with this method, it will cost a decent amount of Lei, so making sure to not miss the free shotgun is highly recommended because that precious Lei can be used to purchase other important items, such as upgrades and recipes.
Having more powerful weapons, especially early on, is crucial to any game and progressing through it successfully, and Resident Evil Village is no exception. The shotgun is going to be the player's best friend as it is highly effective in close combat, which happens a lot in this game. Players can pay for a shotgun, but getting the free shotgun from Old East Town not only saves Lei, but it allows the player to have a powerful weapon earlier on, improving survivability.
