WWE 2K22 Developer Teases Behind the Scenes Footage | Screen Rant

The developers behind WWE 2K22 have promised some intriguing behind-the-scenes footage on their newest game over the next few months. 2K and Visual Concepts’ squared circle series was put on hold last year due to the disastrous launch of WWE 2K20, which was filled with countless bugs and glitches that made the game completely unplayable and put a black mark on the long-running WWE gaming franchise.

Instead of a proper sequel, WWE fans were treated to WWE 2K Battlegrounds last year, a cartoonish attempt to recreate the arcade-style old-school wrestling titles. It was met with only a slightly better reception than the broken WWE 2K20. However, 2K is getting back into the more serious mat-simulator business with WWE 2K22, as promised in its launch trailer during last month’s WrestleMania.

Now, in a short YouTube video that was released earlier today, WWE 2K22’s developers announced they are giving fans a closer look at the game’s production process in the coming months. Visual Concepts creative director Lynell Jinks promises a special sneak peek at 2k22’s motion capture, character modeling, and facial scanning, which he says is all part of the process of ensuring that this newest installment will "hit different" than what came before. Check out the full YouTube video below.

The world of wrestling-based video games is looking more exciting by the moment. Aside from WWE 2K22, there was a recent trademark filling surrounding the iconic WWE No Mercy for the Nintendo 64 – though this likely has more to do with merchandise or a revived PPV show than a remaster of that influential title. Additionally, rival promotion All-Elite Wrestling is currently planning out its own gaming franchise, even going as far as to recruit former WWE developer Yukes just as it has done with several of Vince McMahon's former employees over the past year or so. And that isn’t going into how wrestlers themselves have become popular figures in the gaming community, such as New Day member Xavier Woods hosting a video game competition show on the recently revived G4TV.

It's no secret that 2K and Visual Concepts are going to be fighting an uphill battle in restoring the trust of fans after the disaster that was WWE 2K20. By providing those fans more transparency in how the newest title is being rebuilt from the ground up, perhaps WWE 2K22 can manage to restore some of that shattered goodwill when it launches sometime this fall. In any case, players can expect to see more of the game thanks to Lynell Jinks’s videos over the next few months.
