Now that all DLC content for all three games is included with Mass Effect Legendary Edition, players have access to squadmate Javik by default. Originally released with the Mass Effect 3: From Ashes DLC, Javik is an optional squadmate in Mass Effect 3. He is the only known Prothean to have survived for millennia in his stasis pod, which Cerberus is currently after. He provides a wealth of information about the Prothean species and history and the Reapers. He is particularly relevant to Liara and asari lore. To recruit him, Shepard will need to complete the From Ashes DLC mission Priority: Eden Prime and return to the human colony there.
Priority: Eden Prime is around the same length as most other Priority missions in Mass Effect 3. While it can be started at any point after Shepard takes control of the Normandy following Priority: The Citadel I, many players choose to begin as soon as possible so they can bring Javik along for relevant missions. It is also possible for players to skip recruiting Javik altogether, though this will cause them to miss a lot of key information, gear, and his teachable bonus powers. Here's how to start the From Ashes DLC and recruit Javik in Mass Effect 3.

To start the From Ashes DLC and recruit Javik in Mass Effect 3, Shepard will need to travel to Eden Prime. Though it is in the same spot as it was in Mass Effect's Prologue, players are unlikely to remember the exact location. Shepard will find Eden Prime in the Utopia system of the Exodus Cluster. When players begin Priority: Eden Prime, they will be required to take Liara as the resident Prothean expert. As they will face much opposition from Cerberus, it is a good idea to bring another squadmate with some tech abilities, especially Overload, to deal with shields and armor.
Priority: Eden Prime has a few key parts. First, Shepard and their squad must locate the stasis pod. Then, they will need to find the pod's opening instructions, followed by locating the command signal. Each time Shepard finds one of these, their connection to the Prothean Beacon from Mass Effect will allow them to relive moments from the Reaper-Prothean war. Once they return to the pod, they will need to defend it from Cerberus forces and open it to recruit Javik to the team.

Though Shepard can begin the From Ashes DLC and recruit Javik as early as Priority: The Citadel I, many fans save it until just before Priority: Sur'Kesh. This is due in part because, even if players complete Priority: Eden Prime early, Javik cannot be selected as a squadmate during Priority: Palaven anyway. It makes more sense to wait to recruit him until after Palaven to ensure Shepard is powerful enough to deal with the Cerberus enemies they will face and that he can be brought along on missions.
Javik is a second biotic expert for Shepard's squad. Upon recruiting him, Shepard can find him in the port cargo hold where Grunt used to stay in Mass Effect 2, though, like other squadmates, he will often move around and converse with other members of Shepard's team. Many of his lines and his unique, imperialist perspective contribute to the humor of Mass Effect 3.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
