Bachelor: Sean Lowe Boycotting Show After Chris Harrison Exit

Many fans were dismayed when news broke that long-time host of The Bachelor Chris Harrison was leaving the franchise, and one of Bachelor Nation’s most popular former leads also isn’t on board with the changing of the guard. ABC paid Harrison a cool $10 million to step down from his role as host, but many fans and franchise stars are still salty that he’ll no longer be on their screens. Former Bachelor Sean Lowe is apparently one such fan who, according to his wife Catherine, will not be watching the Harrison-less seasons.

After a disastrous interview with former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay, when Harrison displayed his racial insensitivity and ignorance, there was a strong push from fans and former cast members to have him removed from the franchise. But even though many wanted Harrison gone, the former host has his supporters, and thousands of fans signed a petition to keep him on the show. ABC apparently took the backlash seriously, and though Harrison quickly lawyered up, the network put things in motion to have him exit the franchise gracefully.

Even before Harrison was ejected from the franchise, he was replaced on Katie Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette by former leads Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams. Many have praised their hosting skills, but not everyone is supporting the change. Catherine Giudici wanted Harrison to stay on as host, and so did her husband Sean. Us Weekly reports that when asked if they were tuning in to Katie’s season, Catherine said, “I’m watching it. My husband is kind of boycotting it because of the Chris Harrison stuff, but I’m watching it this season to support the girls.”

Though she didn’t want Harrison to leave the franchise, Catherine didn’t trash the new season, saying “it’s been interesting. It’s been an interesting season. It’s just the beginning...I’m excited for Katie [Thurston].” Sean and Catherine may be mourning the departure of the long-time host, but other Bachelor Nation stars, like Mike Johnson, have been optimistic about Harrison’s exit. They, and many fans think it’s an opportunity for the franchise to move in a new, more diverse direction and inject new life into the series.

Sean has always been Team Chris, and the former lead of The Bachelor has made his opinion clear about what he thinks of the direction the show is going. However, for a lot of fans, Harrison didn’t really do much on the show, and often his role seemed to be largely ceremonial. There are certainly many die-hard viewers who will want to boycott the show like Sean, but for the bulk of the fanbase, nothing fundamental about the franchise has changed.
