Stan Lee Just Had a Bronx Street Named After Him | Screen Rant

Stan Lee now has a street named after him in the Bronx, where he grew up. Lee received many awards and honors in his lifetime, and this one is extra special, as it not only honors the neighborhood Lee grew up in, but also the Marvel Universe he helped create.

Stan Lee is one of the most influential comic book creators of all time. Starting in the field as a teenager, Lee would become one of Timely Comics (the predecessor to Marvel) top creators, bringing to life such characters as Captain America. Later, working with Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don Heck and others, Lee created the Marvel Universe that fans know and love today, and over time Lee would become the public face for the company, rubbing shoulders with celebrities and other famous people. His gregarious and affable style endured him to fans on the convention circuit and he followed it up by a string of cameos in every movie starring a Marvel character up until his passing on November 12, 2018, at the age of 95. Two and a half years later, Stan’s hometown has named a street in his honor, and the city recently held a dedication ceremony.

Comicbook.com reported on the details of this exciting honor. Located in the Bronx, the borough where Lee spent his teenage, and arguably most formative, years. Named “Stan Lee Way,” it is located on University Avenue, between Brandt Place and West 176th Street. Students in the fine arts program at nearby Dewitt Clinton High School attended to help celebrate the occasion; Stan attended Dewitt as a teenager, and it was there that his love of writing developed and was nurtured.

Although he would spend his later years in Los Angeles, New York always held a place in Stan Lee’s heart. A good portion of the characters he helped created live in the Big Apple and help keep it safe. Stan’s influence can still be felt in New York City today, particularly at his alma mater. When asked about Lee’s legacy, a student reported that portraits of Lee hang on the school’s walls, and he serves as an inspiration for many of them. Naming a street after Stan makes sense, in light of his love of the city and his cultural contributions.

Stan Lee is recognized the world over as one of comics’ greatest creators, who helped build a fictional universe that still dazzles 70 years on. He received many honors during his lifetime, such as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, posthumously, Stan Lee has a street named in his honor.
