The contestants of Big Brother Canada were just now made aware of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The show started filming after all of the restrictions, leaving the housemates completely obvlivious of the crisis happening outside of the Big Brother mansion.
The series is a reality competition that has impressive challenges, juicy romances among the cast, and heartbreaking eliminations. The show blends the combination of a reality show with a game show, and fans watch as contestants battle each week to maintain their place in the house. Ten strangers enter and their every move is watched. The household is given a small allowance for their essentials and the roommates must try to live together for the next three months in isolation from the rest of the world.
Currently, Big Brother Canada is filming its newest season, and since the contestants are living separate from the media and outside world, they spent most of the season completely unaware that the Coronavirus is even happening. Indy 100 noted that the contestants that were left were wondering why there was not a live audience for their evictions. In the clip, the housemates were gathered around the kitchen table discussing the matter at hand. The group made note that all the seats were empty, and they could not hear anyone. While during the first evictions, they could hear the audience being seated and cheers from the crowd. One contestant goes as far as to say the whole house must have been made soundproof, with a roommate asking, all of a sudden?" Check out the Big Brother contestants talking amongst themselves in the clip below:
The rest of the table pointed out that they were living on a set and that they felt like dolls being maneuvered, never getting close to the idea that there was a worldwide pandemic. The housemates then hear the Big Brother voice overheard that asks them to stop talking. COVID-19 has continued to spread throughout the world with many preparing for self-isolation, but it was obvious to fans that the season 8 cast of Big Brother Canada was oblivious as the film crew has not shared the news. The show’s production company, Global and Insight productions released a statement addressing the concerns for the cast saying every safety precaution was taken and as of March 12, they have decided to suspend the audience during their live tapings. The season began filming on March 4th, but the virus has been existing since January. Canada itself has 225 recorded cases and mass gatherings like in other countries have been canceled. As of March 16th, the production has made the contestants aware of the COVID-19 virus for safety measures according to Global News.
Since the contestants are now made aware of the news, they are currently living just like many of the other people in self-isolation. The Big Brother Canada house is like it's own little self-contained quarantined world, safe from COVID-19.
