The world of Marvel's X-Force #9 proves not every part of X-Men comics is grim or dreary. That's thanks to the mutant singer Dazzler's hot new band rocking Krakoa's most happening nightspot, The Green Lagoon.
The Dazzler, aka Alison Blaire, has a checkered past as a musical artist; the promising talent has time and again been sidelined by anti-mutant prejudice and superheroic concerns, with Doctor Doom, the Enchantress, Hulk, and even Spider-Man disrupting performances and derailing Dazzler's career. Dazzler's new bandmate Lila Cheney employed Dazzler as a backup singer for a time, allowing her to keep a low profile while still performing. Dazzler's next musical incarnation put her at the front of the band Lightbringr, which sought to shed light on the plight of genetic minorities... until Blaire was again called into action. But things are looking up on Krakoa for both Dazzler and the Resurrections.

The name of the group was confirmed by series artist Josh Cassara via Twitter, and is a cheeky nod to Krakoa's history, which has seen numerous mutant resurrections, and the other band members pictured similarly refer back to the X-Men's past: the drummer is erstwhile X-Man Iara dos Santos, better known as Shark Girl, while ukulele duties are held down by none other than Lila Cheney, the teleporting rock star/thief who has performed with fellow mutant Dazzler in the past. But as CBR points out, the name "the Resurrections" may portend dark story turns, as the resurrection protocols of Krakoa have been hinted to be less than entirely salubrious. X-Force #10, drawn by Cassara and written by Benjamin Percy, will continue the previous issue's Terra Verde storyline, featuring Wolverine, Quentin Quire, and Domino, in which a team member must deal with secrets coming to light as the heroes fight to survive their mission in the Central American nation.
Blaire's fortunes as a singer may be looking up. The Resurrections are based in Krakoa, a mutant sovereign state, and are seemingly made up entirely of mutants, which would suggest a "safe space" for Dazzler to practice her art. The groovy, tiki-themed Green Lagoon, with its mutant clientele, likewise seems an ideal venue for Dazzler (though one might want to avoid occasions upon which Wolverine and family are in attendance). Alison Blaire has never quite attained A-lister status, as an entertainer or mutant superhero, but perhaps the Resurrections represent her best shot at the top to date. Cheney and Blaire are a potent, charismatic combination, and who wouldn't want to see a were-shark going wild on the drums? The real resurrection just might be Blaire's dream to finally, simply, sing.
