Fan reaction to the massively anticipated Call of Duty: Warzone has been been a pretty steady mix of good and bad. Players have raved about the Gulag, while also presenting several issues with Warzone's lobbies and glitches.
Call of Duty: Warzone has been rumored for several months at this point. Gameplay for Warzone was leaked back in February on Reddit. This initial leak seemed to be a training segment for the new battle royale title that showed players how to pick up loot and perform simple actions. As excitement for the new Call of Duty battle royale grew, so did the amount of leaks for the game. Eventually Activision had enough and demanded that Reddit turn these leakers over to the company.
Now that Warzone is finally here there are many fans who have mixed feelings about Call of Duty's take on the battle royale genre, but an overwhelming amount of players seem to be having a lot of fun with the game. Reddit user u/ImmortalHitman720 feels that using the Warzone map for both Spec Ops and Ground War missions was a very smart idea. This has allowed players to get used to the massive map over the last several months without even realizing it. Additionally, developers have been able to playtest and tweak the Call of Duty: Warzone map live in order to optimize it for battle royale.
Another massive success for the game has been the new Gulag mechanic. Anytime a player dies they must fight 1v1 in the Gulag in order to earn a respawn. Players have seemed to almost universally love this mechanic, and many have put out constructive ideas on how to improve it. Players have commented that it makes respawning so much more interesting, but Reddit user u/ProxiizmA has noticed that Gulag fights that come to a draw enable both players to redeploy. At the moment it is not clear if this is a mistake or a design choice. The most negative response has been centered around the lobbies and a pretty major glitch. Players feel that the lobbies are taking far to long to boot up because games won't start unless exactly 150 people have joined. The issue here is that players get bored of waiting and quit the lobby before it can be started. Another user, u/Worgenator, has noticed a massive glitch in Warzone. Sometimes when an enemy is killed a black cloud begins to form on the player's screen that can completely obscure their view. This is big problem that should be fixed soon.
Almost every video game isn't perfect at launch. This is even more true when it concerns massive online games like Call of Duty: Warzone. Overall, however, it seems like fans are mostly happy with Warzone at the moment, despite a few hiccups here and there. Only time will tell if Warzone manages to keep Call of Duty fans' attention.
Call of Duty: Warzone can be played on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
