How To Use Microsoft Bing's Interactive Map To Track Coronavirus

Being kept informed on what’s happening with the coronavirus outbreak is something many companies have been working on lately. One of the most recent to take on the task is Microsoft with its new interactive map. Here’s what you can expect.

Ever since coronavirus burst onto the scene, its ability to transmit from person to person has surprised many with the numbers affected increasingly at an alarming rate. What’s more, as the virus has spread from country to country, keeping track of the latest developments and numbers has become something many more people want access to. Microsoft is hoping its new interactive map will do just that by providing an easy way for users to see what’s happening at the national level, as well as internationally.

Microsoft has now released its COVID-19 Tracker interactive map and it can be accessed by visiting bing.com/covid. In addition to an actual number of how many people are affected by coronavirus globally, the page also provides a visual map of the world, highlighting hotspots in each country. However, that’s just the beginning of what’s on offer, and the more a user delves into the interactive experience, the more information becomes available.

For those just interested in the absolute global number and a quick view of what’s happening at the international level, the map provides it instantly. However, at the side of the page is a menu which lists every country that’s been affected by the outbreak so far, along with their current infection tally. Furthermore, clicking on any of these countries provides the user with information specifically related to that location. This not only includes a breakdown of how many active cases there are, but also how many have recovered, and how many have proved fatal. Adding to the country-specific information, the tabs also include news pieces based on the location - although they do not currently appear to be massively up-to-date with stories surfacing that are a day or two old on average.

When it comes to the US, there’s a few additional features on offer and worth knowing about. For example, clicking on the United States tab not only highlights the overall US infection count, and shows the news feed, but also lets the user further filter the results at a state level. With this, users in the US are able to see how many cases there are in their own state and even see news that’s specifically relevant to where they are. Although again, the news feed appears to be a little behind. Unfortunately, the map doesn’t seem to go any further than the state level at the moment and therefore users are unable to check specifics for their city or county. However, any tool that might be able to keep users better informed on the coronavirus outbreak, locally or globally, is going to help.
