Since the first episode of Seinfeld aired in 1989, the "show about nothing" has delighted fans with its observational humor and running gags. It has been off the air for over 20 years now, yet Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine's shenanigans hold up quite well in the present day. People still love Seinfeld's unique brand of humor.
When you have such a devoted group of followers, they tend to take your own creations and run with them a bit. Such is the case with Larry David and the characters he and his pal Jerry helped bring to life. There has never been a Seinfeld movie spinoff, but that has not stopped fans from creating fake trailers based on the iconic show. Here are ten of the best Seinfeld movie trailers, made by people with too much time on their hands. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
10 Kramerica
It seemed like Cosmo Kramer had a new million-dollar business idea every few episodes. From the coffee table book, to the bra for men, to the peanut butter and jelly restaurant, Kramer had quite a few radical business endeavors. "Kramerica" was what he dubbed his company, and that is the inspiration behind this hilarious movie trailer. It feels like the classic rise and fall of a corporate titan. Kramer had everything, until he got into business with the wrong type of people. Can he rise from the ashes to save his company, returning to his perch atop the business world? Go watch Kramerica on Memorial Day to find out!
9 Vandelay Industries
George Costanza always seemed to get the short end of the stick. Most of the time he deserved it, but that never stopped George from going to extreme lengths in pursuit of revenge. Such is the basis of Vandelay Industries, a film centered on him getting back at the New York Yankees after they fired him because of (allegedly) stealing equipment.
George creates a fake persona, known as Art Vandelay, who, with the help of his associates, Kel Varnsen and H.E. Pennypacker, will try to take down George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees. Will he succeed? We'll find out. One thing's for sure, though; George is getting angry!
8 Hello Newman
You never really find out what the root of Jerry and Newman's feud is. All you know is that Jerry hates his nosy, shady, mailman neighbor from down the hall, and that the feeling is mutual. But what if Newman was more than just a minor nuisance? What if he was more dangerous than Jerry realized? Hello Newman takes viewers on a suspenseful thrill ride, into the mind of a calculating psychopath like Newman. Jerry is not safe. Neither is George, Kramer, or Elaine, for he is out to get them all. The gang better be looking over their shoulders while Newman is at large.
7 Prognosis: Negative
Kramer had several alter-egos during Seinfeld's 180-episode run. One of them was Dr. Van Nostrand, a respected doctor from a clinic in Belgium. Prognosis: Negative centers on Van Nostrand, who has gone from helping all those around him with his healing touch, to unwittingly releasing a deadly infection with the potential to be an epidemic. Jerry, George, Elaine, and everyone the doctor knows is at risk, meaning he must act quickly before it is too late. If anyone can save them though, it is a doctor as world-renowned as Dr. Van Nostrand.
6 Jerry the Great
Jerry Seinfeld, a villain? Jerry was always a bit narcissistic and cruel in the show, but in Jerry the Great, his character flaws consume him as he attempts to achieve world domination. Jerry, along with his devious sidekick George, hatch a sadistic plan to conquer everything, leaving complete destruction in their wake. No one can stand in the way of these two, for they will stop at nothing to rule the world. The laid-back, comedic Jerry you were familiar with is gone, as his unquenchable thirst for power is all that remains.
5 George
George Costanza never catches a break. He is indirectly responsible for the death of his fiancee, Susan, after he accidentally picks out poisonous wedding envelopes. And yet, in George, he somehow manages to rebound from such catastrophic heartbreak. In this heartwarming tale, a down-on-his-luck hero finds new meaning in life, in part due to his mentorship of a young boy named Joey. George finally finds a way to forgive himself for what happened to Susan, something that would have completely broken other men. Go see George in theaters for a feel-good, comeback story for the ages.
4 Joker
What if George snapped? He certainly has enough reason to. Nothing ever goes his way in Seinfeld, and he is short-tempered and depressed most of the time as it is. Joker, which is based on the Joaquin Phoenix film of the same name, shows what would happen if George finally decided to take a stand against all of the injustices that the world has thrown at him.
He's not going to take it anymore, and will do anything to acquire the feeling of happiness he so desires. It is best not to cross him, for this is not the George you once knew.
3 Serenity Now
Serenity Now is a classic whodunit. On the one hand, we have Kramer, who has been convicted of a murder he swears he didn't commit. His friends are skeptical of his innocence, for the evidence seems to be stacked against him. On the other hand, we have Newman, the malicious neighbor who many suspect is the real perpetrator, including Kramer. Newman may have set him up, pinning his own murder on Kramer. Will Kramer be able to prove his innocence? Will Newman ever be brought to justice? Serenity Now is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
2 Yada Yada
Elaine Benes has always been a gifted writer. But what if her gifts were a bit too... real? When Elaine is assigned the task of ghostwriting Mr. Peterman's autobiography in Yada Yada, she soon discovers that her skills with the pen have spilled over into real life. Anything she writes comes true. Elaine is now faced with the devastating magnitude of her incredible abilities. Time will tell if she is able to handle such power, but one thing is for sure; those closest to her had better watch out.
1 Seinfeld: The Movie
Seinfeld: The Movie is probably the one that most fans would come to see. This film is a classic reunion. The studios managed to round up all of the main characters, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc. and make one giant Seinfeld episode, only with a two-hour runtime. The fan service would be through the roof. We'd probably get to see a classic Elaine-Puddy argument, some rapid-fire Jackie Chiles legal advice, and, of course, plenty of meaningless debates between Jerry, Elaine, Kramer, and George. Everyone loved the show about nothing. Now they have a chance to enjoy the movie about nothing.
