Exciting news has been announced for North American fans of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town. After a long wait, the 1.0.5 update is expected to release in the West, bringing with it a number of changes meant to improve gameplay and fix issues that have impacted playability since the release of Pioneers of Olive Town in March. While the anticipated fixes won't overhaul all the issues currently creating problems, it is a big step towards making the game more enjoyable for fans of the Story of Seasons series.
Previously known as Harvest Moon, the Story of Seasons games have been a widely popular farming simulation series for decades, inspiring numerous slice-of-life style titles in recent years. However, as games like Stardew Valley rose in popularity by implementing new concepts and mechanics, Story of Seasons needed to incorporate new ideas to keep up. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town attempted to utilize many of these successful mechanics, and while better tool upgrades and a larger farm map made exploration more exciting, many other concepts ended up being frustratingly problematic.
One of the biggest setbacks for Pioneers of Olive Town was the Maker Machines. Developer Marvelous modeled Pioneers of Olive Town's Maker Machines after the mechanics seen in Stardew Valley. Players can build Maker Machines to set on their farms, and then place a number of raw materials into the Maker to receive a single processed item. However, Unlike Stardew Valley, which reserved these devices for creating things like ingots, jam, and cheese, Pioneers of Olive Town has created a system where the processed goods from the Makers are key requirements for everything from basic crafting to home upgrades. For many, gameplay slowed to a crawl, as Makers can only produce one processed item at a time, creating a chronic shortage of building resources.
Thankfully, according to the changelog provided by XSEED, the 1.0.5 update will overhaul the Maker Machines, allowing them to be preloaded to create 10 processed items at a time. The update includes a much-needed overhaul on NPC dialogue, shortens certain cooking times, and adds quality of life fixes including removing the requirement of hitting "A" to go inside and outside. The 1.0.5 update released in May for players in Japan, and June 23 for Europe. North American players will be able to enjoy the update on June 26 according to XSEED, barring any struggles or mishaps.
Another Pioneers of Olive Town update is already available to players in Japan, which will hopefully release in other parts of the world sometime in July. The 1.0.6 update will add new content to the Egg Festival, improve visuals for many actions, and implement fixes for a number of bugs and glitches. Thanks to these updates, Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town will hopefully become the game that so many fans had hoped for, and allow players to better enjoy life on their digital farmsteads.
