Netflix's The Witcher: 6 Times Jaskier Was A Great Friend (& 4 Times He Was The Worst)

Easily, one of the most entertaining parts of Netflix's The Witcher is Jaskier, the overeager bard from Upper Posada. He brings a spark of life and sass to Geralt's grumpiness that turns them into a comedic duo. But what makes Jaskier even better is the fact that he is a wonderful, dedicated best friend (even though Geralt won't admit it).

From his first moment on screen to the tragedy of episode six, fans adored him and can't wait to see what happens in season 2. AKA Jaskier please or they riot.

However, Jaskier isn't always a perfect friend, so let's talk about the good and the bad.

10 Didn't Let Geralt Push Him Away (Great)

Geralt of Rivia has a great habit of trying to push away everyone he meets. Call it the charm of a Witcher. However, despite his best efforts, Jaskier has never been deterred.

Considering Geralt insults and punches him, that's pretty impressive.

Though Geralt is not an easy friend to have, Jaskier does the guy a great service by working so hard to be his friend. No one else tried so hard, not even his lady love Yennefer. She ditched Geralt several times throughout their relationship.

Only made that last fight hit so much harder.

9 Made Geralt Save Him From Angry Nobles (Worst)

While Jaskier normally treats Geralt like his cool, loner best friend, sometimes he does use the Witcher's intimidation factor to his benefit. When playing his biggest gig so far, Jaskier was asked to sing songs for Princess Pavetta of Cintra's engagement party. Unfortunately, though, that meant a lot of Cintra nobility was going to be there. And Jaskier was a little... inappropriate with a lot of their wives.

He guilts Geralt into coming to the party to protect him from jealous husbands and angry family members, even though the Witcher hates parties. And worse, per Geralt's normal fate, ended up dragging him into some sort of complex family conflict. Maybe Jaskier shouldn't make his sexual exploits Geralt's problem.

8 Gives Him Baths (Great)

Because of all the traveling and monster-guts Geralt deals with, he's not exactly known for being the cleanest person. It's just not a priority when there are villages to protect from Drowners or Wyverns.

Whenever he and Jaskier meet back up, though, the bard makes sure that his friend gets clean. So much so that he helps the guy bathe, taking his laundry for him and keeping him company. It must be nice for Geralt to soak in a hot bath and have someone else bring him towels and soaps.

Sure, maybe it was weird at first, but by the fourth episode, it seems like a comfortable norm.

7 Uses Him As A Human Shield (Worst)

When Jaskier accompanied Geralt on his adventures, unfortunately, the bard never learned much about fighting on his own. Any time something dangerous pops up, Geralt has to save Jaskier from the danger.

For example, when Jaskier ran into a helpless, emaciated Hirikka? He immediately runs from the bushes to hide behind Geralt. He even shouts his name the entire time.

Fans may love the guy, but he's no warrior. And while Geralt is the muscle, it must be annoying to always have to take care of all their monster problems (spoilers, they have a lot of them).

6 Chase Him Around For Over 20 Years (Great)

In the Netflix series, fans get to see Geralt and Jaskier's relationship evolve over two decades. They start off pretty combative, but they eventually grow this sort of sincere comfort around each other. However, one weird aspect of it is that Geralt is traveling around doing his job, but it seems like Jaskier only finds him by chasing his stories around waiting for him to come to see him. Sure, Geralt may be basically immortal, but that must be hard on Jaskier's part.

He has to be a pretty great friend to be so patient with Geralt always running around and being hard to find.

Also, Jaskier doesn't get too annoyed about Geralt disregarding the limited timeline of his mortality, which is more than most people would put up with.

5 Loves Him Enough To Write His Biography (Great)

While this is only hinted at in the fourth episode, in the books and video games, Jaskier doesn't just write songs about Geralt's adventures. He also is constantly trying to write a comprehensive Biography of Geralt's adventurous life. More reasons to ask the locals about Geralt's fight with the Selkie.

Jaskier is so determined to write this book that he tries for decades, despite fate trying to destroy all his attempts. Every manuscript he's written for Geralt's biography has been lost, burned, or obliterated.

Yet Jaskier loves and believes in his friend's exploits so much that he keeps on trying.

4 Constantly Distracted By Flirting (Worst)

One of Jaskier's biggest flaws is his flirting. It caused them trouble in Cintra and, in the sixth episode, distracts Jaskier from keeping a closer eye on the Yennefer situation. Granted, Jaskier isn't a huge fan of her, so it's no surprise he preferred flirting with female warriors than paying attention to Geralt's puppy dog eyes for her.

If it wasn't for his flirting, Jaskier might've never asked Geralt to that royal engagement party that changed his life. Sure, e will eventually appreciate that, but at first? All it causes is trouble and chaos.

Jaskier really needs to calm it down when it comes to falling over women; at least for Geralt's benefit.

3 Supported Him Through Yennefer Troubles (Great)

Even though Jaskier wasn't too much of a fan of Yennefer (makes sense, the first time he met her, she threatened him), he did his best to support Geralt. Sure, he also would prefer they never spend time with her at all. However, when Geralt insists? He stays by his side and keeps him company. He could have ditched the second Yen showed up, but he didn't.

Jaskier even tries to make him feel better after Yen breaks his heart.

Geralt is the one that handles the rejection and cheering up... poorly, to say the least.

2 Tried To Steal His Wishes (Worst)

Drunk, heartbroken Jaskier is already a lot to deal with, so him clashing with a sleep-deprived, stressed Geralt is a recipe for disaster. When Geralt was desperate to find a genie (in hopes of a good night's rest), Jaskier finds him and they start to argue.

Someone could cut the tension with a butter knife.

Worse, when they open the djinn's jar, Jaskier assumes he's the one who got the wishes. And instead of talking with his very best friend, he immediately starts demanding wishes.

Fans can understand his annoyance with the stubborn Witcher and Jaskier's own woes, but it was a serious jerk move.

1 Wrote Him A Great Theme Song (Great)

One of the most objectively positive things Jaskier did for Geralt was to write him the best marketing of the century. In "Toss a Coin To Your Witcher", the Witcher reputation greatly improved around the Continent and Geralt started getting paid a lot better than ever before. While his type still wasn't everyone's favorite people, they got a little more respect.

Geralt doesn't seem to appreciate the song, but he really should. It improved his life by a wide margin. And even better, it came with a brilliant companion willing to survive all his crankiness.

At the very least Jaskier deserves to be called a great friend.
