Flash Finally Gets His Life And Family Back in Comic Sneak Peek

Warning: includes a preview for The Flash #772!

DC Comics has released previews for The Flash #772, featuring Wally West as Central City's new Flash and on the lookout for a job. Comics have often brushed over how superheroes live comfortably in their worlds when most of them don't even get paid to fight criminals. Just like in the real world, somehow DC's heroes have to live their lives and provide for their families. Not everyone is Batman or Green Arrow, who practically never need to work thanks to their billions.

This is what is happening to Wally as he returns from his Omniverse-bending journey, courtesy of the Speed Force. The true intentions of the Speed Force are soon to be revealed in The Flash 2021 Annual #1, however, his journey has put a lot of things in focus for Wally. While the Speed Force has been experiencing surges for a reason, its method of hurling Wally across time and space to fix the problem also seems to have been intended to stop him retiring as the Flash, especially with Barry Allen off-world working for Justice Incarnate. The Flash #772 shows this gambit will be successful, but now Wally needs to find a way to balance his real and heroic lives.

In a preview of The Flash #772 from DC Comics, Wally is looking for a job to pay the bills. After returning from his Speed Force adventure, Wally returns to his family and soon realizes that being the Flash can't be his only job, because it doesn't pay. Having been away from society for a long period of time, the issue will focus on Wally re-adjusting to life on Earth-0 in the present day. Check out the issue's cover, an unlettered preview, and DC's solicit information below:

  • The Speed Force has propelled Wally West across the Multiverse, from its past to its future. Along the way, he’s experienced the whole of existence, from running with dinosaurs to escaping the Legion of Doom, to the tragedies he’s faced at Sanctuary, and even seeing his children take up the mantle of The Flash.
  • But after all of that, The Flash is finally home in Central City, back with his loving wife Linda, his kids Jai and Iris, and…
  • Looking for a job????
  • Hey, even speedsters gotta eat, and bills don’t pay themselves, not even in the DC Universe! But can The Flash find gainful employment in Central City with a strange cosmic artifact heading to Earth and Heat Wave going on a fiery rampage?
  • Written by JEREMY ADAMS
  • Art by WILL CONRAD
  • Colors by ALEX SINCLAIR
  • Letters by STEVE WANDS
  • $3.99 Main cover by BRANDON PETERSON and MICHAEL ATIYEH
  • $4.99 Card Stock variant cover by BRETT BOOTH, JONATHAN GLAPION and ALEX SINCLAIR

In the previews, Wally is finally suited up as the Flash, sporting the iconic red costume. Skip forward a bit and Wally is realizing that even speedsters have to earn money to live, as he visits Mr. Terrific, seemingly asking for a job at Holt Industries. Recently, Mr. Terrific aided Wally as part of the main timeline team, working alongside Barry Allen and Oliver Queen. Having just worked together extensively, it seems they have formed some form of a bond, allowing Wally to reach out in his time of need. And it looks like Mr. Terrific delivers on this as he hands him a sheet of paper, seemingly willing to make use of Flash's skills in a professional capacity.

However, things go sideways as one of the Flash's rogues return to Central City. That person is none other than Heatwave, who was supposedly reformed from all criminal activities. The reasoning for his turn back to villainy remains unclear, but it looks like it'll be a tough fight. Especially, considering that Wally is just adjusting back to normal life, let alone being a superhero. Finally, whilst this is all happening, a mysterious alien artifact bursts through the Earth's atmosphere. Whatever it is, it seems very important for Wally West's next adventure and his first as the official Flash of Central City.

Reintroduced to continuity in DC Rebirth, Wally returned without his family, who had effectively been erased from history. While they've since returned, fans will breathe a sigh of relief that Wally's new status quo as the Flash involves a stable family life, especially after recent revelations that his daughter Irey will become a powerful hero in the future. DC's flash-forward event Future State promised a grim demise for Wally, possessed by the deadly supernatural being known as Famine. Readers will be relieved that this isn't how Wally's healing of the Speed Force ends, and that the fan-favorite character will actually get to enjoy some traditional adventures when The Flash #722 releases on July 20, from Jeremy Adams, Will Conrad, Alex Sinclair, and Steve Wands.
