Stranger Of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Will Have 8 Weapon Types

In an action RPG like Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, trading out weapons will be a key gameplay mechanic. The arsenal will be expanded in the full version of the game, as it will feature eight different weapon types. Here's everything to know about each one.

The demo for Final Fantasy Origin currently has three weapon types. The first weapon type the player encounters in this Trial Version is the greatsword, which is used by the Swordsman/Warrior jobs. The greatsword is slow and lacks defense, but it deals a ton of damage to hit points and stagger when it strikes. The second weapon type the player encounters is the mace, which is used by the Mage/Black Mage jobs. The mace lacks attack power, but it's swift, can be empowered with elemental magic, and it lets the user equip a kite shield. The final weapon is the lance, which is used by the Lancer/Dragoon jobs. The lance has a long forward reach and deals lots of damage, but it lacks AoE when compared to the greatsword.

The Trial Version only contains a brief snippet of content, revealing a little about Final Fantasy Origin, as the player only tackles the first dungeon in the game. The developers of Stranger of Paradise were recently interviewed in Famitsu (which has been translated into English by the official Square Enix website), and they have discussed the overall scope of the game, compared to what was seen in the Trial Version.

The final version of Stranger of Paradise will have eight weapon types overall. The remaining five weapon types are one-handed swords, axes, knuckles, daggers, and katanas. It was confirmed that some of the one-handed weapons will allow magic-users to cast spells, so they won't be restricted to using maces throughout the game. It was also confirmed that the Knight and Red Mage jobs will appear in Final Fantasy Origin as well.

What's funny about the eight weapon types is that the original Final Fantasy (which Stranger of Paradise is inspired by) also had that number of types. In Final Fantasy, there were fists, daggers, swords, katanas, nunchaku, axes, hammers, and staves. It's possible that this is just a coincidence, as the two lists aren't a direct match, and fists barely qualify, as they're just the default when no weapon is equipped.
