Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody Tops Weekend Box Office with $6.7 Million

The Bob Odenkirk-led crime thriller Nobody has topped the weekend box office with a $6.7 million opening. Odenkirk was once known for his comedic career, which included stints as a writer on SNL and as the co-creator and star of HBO's cult sketch comedy program Mr. Show. However, since his breakout turn as wily attorney Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad, the former sitcom star has taken on more and more dramatic work. Along with notable roles in Fargo season 1, The Spectacular Now, and more, Odenkirk currently stars in the Breaking Bad prequel seriesBetter Call Saul.

Now, Deadline reports that Nobody, Odenkirk's first action-thriller feature as a leading man, has topped the weekend box office at $6.7 million. Co-produced by Odenkirk and directed by Hardcore Henry's Ilya Naishuller, the film backed up its largely positive reviews and A- CinemaScore with the strong debut. As cinemas reopen at limited capacity, Los Angeles and its $1.1 million weekend once again paced the country as the leading box office market after totaling $1.55 million last weekend.

Headlining a cast that also includes Connie Nielsen, RZA, and Christopher Lloyd, Odenkirk stars as titular "nobody" Hutch Mansell. After taking on a gang of Russian thugs, Hutch and his dark past are dragged into a violent criminal underworld. The film was penned by John Wick writer-creator Derek Kolstad, who Odenkirk cold-called after watching John Wick to see if he'd be interested in collaborating. The risky strategy has apparently paid off, and with any luck, Nobody will have the legs to build upon its robust financial opening.
