New Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Crystal Kung Minkoff, is using her platform to help amplify the voices of those who have experienced AAPI racism. Crystal has yet to grace the viewer's screens as she will be appearing in the upcoming season of the popular Bravo franchise. She will become the first Asian-American woman to become a cast member on RHOBH. Crystal will be joining the cast alongside Kathy Hilton, who will appear as a "friend of."
Even though season 11 of RHOBH hasn't begun to air, Crystal is already making waves in the Bravo community. She was introduced to the show by her friend and former housewife, Teddi Mellencamp. Even though Teddi was fired, after three seasons on RHOBH, casting decided to add Crystal to the cast anyway. The mother of two has not only become super close with her castmates, but she has also developed friendships with housewives outside her franchise. Once the new season of RHOBH begins airing, Crystal will definitely become a fan favorite.
During an Instagram Live on the Bravo TV Instagram, Crystal took part in Bravo's Amplify Our Voices: An Open Dialogue on Being AAPI in America, which took place on Thursday. The 35-year-old was joined by The Real Housewives of Dallas newcomer. Dr. Tiffany Moon and Top Chef's Melissa King, where they discussed the increase in reported hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Included in the Live was MSNBC's Richard Lui, who hosted the chat. Crystal spoke on how the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes has increased over the last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She revealed "Asian-American hate and racism is not new" in the United States, but it's difficult not to see over the past year.
The entrepreneur continued, "I believe that this is a political—it's toxic—influence that is part of the reason for this uptick in violence." She also shared how people should not be silent about these blatant attacks of violence moving forward. Crystal continued to say that having these open dialogues is important so they can change people's perceptions. Tiffany chimed in as well, adding how she experienced racial attacks since the first grade. The anesthesiologist is even being discriminated against while doing her job and trying to help people. Melissa also recalled her brother-in-law hearing racial slur directed towards him at a grocery store in March 2020, during the beginning of COVID-19.
The fight against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders hate crimes have been ongoing for many years, but the COVID-19 pandemic has caused an increase in them. Crystal is using her platform to create awareness and space for those to talk about these hate crimes and those who have experienced them. With the help of fellow Bravolebrities, Tiffany Moon, and Melissa King, Crystal can do her part to help amplify voices for those in the AAPI community.
