The first round of the Battles on The Voice season 20 is now behind us, and the fans want to find out which singers won, lost, and got stolen by another coach during this phase in the competition. This has been one of the most exciting and talent-packed seasons of The Voice in a while, and it is a great thing that the series has now perfected the art of filming new cycles of the show amid the COVID-19 pandemic. When it comes to the coaches, the dynamic between Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Nick Jonas has also been very exciting to watch.
As the Blind Auditions phase came to a close on season 20, The Voice moved forward to the Battles round. As it has been a tradition on the show, the Battles are when the coaches pair two of their contestants to sing/duet the same song against each other. In the end, their chosen coach can only pick one of them to move forward in the competition. However, the other coaches have a chance at "stealing" the losing singer if they think that this contestant deserves another shot at winning the show. On Monday, March 29, NBC aired the first round of the Battles on season 20.
The first set of Battles on The Voice season 20 featured six pairings: two from Team Blake Shelton, two from Team Nick Jonas, one from Team Kelly Clarkson, and one from Team John Legend. To start the episode off, Kelly paired up Ryleigh Modig and Gean Garcia to perform Ariana Grande's "pov", and Ryleigh came out victorious. Both John and Blake tried to steal Gean, so the contestant chose to join Team Legend. Blake's first pairing of the night was Connor Christian and Aaron Konzelman, and they dueted Rodney Crowell's "Ain't Living Long Like This". Connor won, and Aaron was not stolen by another coach. Then, Team Blake's Ethan Lively and Avery Roberson faced off singing James Otto's "Just Got Started Lovin' You". Ethan won, and Kelly's temporary replacement Kelsea Ballerini stole Avery for Team Kelly.
When it comes to Nick Jonas' The Voice team on season 20, the popstar first had Dana Monique and Devan Blake Jones duet to Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande's "Stuck with U". Nick chose Dana as the winner of the Battle, but he also used his own "steal" to keep Devan on his team. Then, Team Nick's Jose Figueroa Jr. and Awari performed Lauren Daigle's "You Say" in their own Battle, and Jose was picked as the winner. Unfortunately, Awari wasn't stolen by another coach. When it comes to John Legend's roster of contestants, the R&B singer paired up Pia Renee and Christine Cain to sing Brandy's "Baby". Pia was the winner, and Christine was eliminated from the show.
It's been a great season of The Voice on NBC so far. Next week, the coaches will keep pairing up their mentees against each other and choosing a winner from each Battle. A lot of talent can be lost during this round, but it's always nice when a coach gets to save a contestant from going home.
