DOTA: Dragon's Blood Anime Trailer & Character Posters

Netflix's anime-style series DOTA: Dragon's Blood has a new trailer ahead of its March 25th release. The series is based on DOTA 2, Valve's fantasy MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) game in the vein of League of Legends and Heroes of the StormDOTA, itself an acronym for Defense of the Ancients, was first released in 2003 as a fan-developed mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos before its sequel became one of the world's most popular (and lucrative) video games.

After dropping the teaser trailer for DOTA: Dragon's Blood, Netflix has released an official trailer and new character art for the eight-episode series. New character posters feature several of the show's most prominent heroes in their fighting stances - weapons drawn and magic a-blazing.

While DOTA 2 lacks a primary narrative and relies on lore over plot, the trailer suggests that DOTA: Dragon's Blood will follow Davion (Yuri Lowenthal), a young Dragon Knight who is also one of the playable heroes from the game. The series boasts an impressive cast of veteran voice actors and has Ashley Edward Miller (X-Men: First ClassFringe) as its executive producer and showrunner.

Since its 2013 release, DOTA 2 has become a force to be reckoned with in the rapidly growing esports market. The winning team of The International 2019, the largest DOTA 2 tournament globally, collected more money per-player than the winners of Wimbledon and The Masters, two prestigious tournaments in the more traditional sports of tennis and golf. After animated hits like Castlevania, and the massive success of the live-action The Witcher, Netflix should make DOTA: Dragon's Blood another fine entry in its ever-growing catalog of popular video game adaptations.
