Marvel Fans Rally To Save WandaVision's Quicksilver In The MCU

Marvel fans have begun rallying on social media in support of WandaVision's Quicksilver. The MCU's iteration of Quicksilver, or Pietro Maximoff, was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He was introduced alongside Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but while she would go on to play a vital role in the franchise, Quicksilver was killed off in his first and only movie. The arrival of WandaVision on Disney+ stirred up some hope among fans that Quicksilver could be revived somehow, and in a way, they got their wish. WandaVision episode 5 ended with the shocking sight of Quicksilver showing up on Wanda's doorstep... only it was Evan Peters' version of the character, right from Fox's X-Men movies.

Since the MCU will reportedly integrate the X-Men into their universe sometime in the future, many took Peters' arrival to mean it was starting now. Fan theories ran rampant, and fans assumed the X-Men movies would be introduced to the MCU via the multiverse. However, the WandaVision series finale cut those hopes short with the reveal that Quicksilver was actually Ralph Bohner, another unlucky Westview resident caught in Scarlet Witch's spell.

To say that reveal was controversial would be putting it lightly. The negative reactions came swiftly, and now several Marvel fans are making themselves heard on social media by using the hashtag #SaveQuicksilver. At various points, the hashtag was in fact trending as fans shared their love for Quicksilver and their hope that he can be brought back in a better way.

It's easy to see why fans are so disappointed. Taylor-Johnson's iteration of Quicksilver barely got a chance to develop, and since Peters' portrayal of the character was so well-received, fans were excited at the possibility of him finally getting his due in WandaVision. Alas, it was not meant to be. Most likely, Marvel has their own plans in motion for the X-Men, and they might not have anything to do with the Fox films. Instead of bringing the two franchises together, it could be easier to just start from scratch.

Should Marvel choose to go that route with Quicksilver, it might inspire more disappointment and anger from fans. Many are already invested in Peters' Pietro/Peter and wouldn't take very kindly to a recasting. Their #SaveQuicksilver movement should at least show Marvel where their interests lie. Whether it translates to any justice for WandaVision's Quicksilver remains to be seen. Even if nothing comes of it, it's clear Quicksilver has a lot of support among the fanbase, and that's a special thing.
