Sebastian Stan Celebrates Bucky Barnes’ Birthday With Civil War BTS Image

Sebastian Stan pays tribute to his MCU character Bucky Barnes on his birthday by sharing some behind the scenes peeks at Captain America: Civil War. Stan first stepped into the role of James Buchanan Barnes in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. That film tried to throw audiences for a loop by seemingly killing Bucky off, but Stan came back for the 2014 sequel, which saw Bucky transformed into the mindless assassin the Winter Soldier. Over the years, Bucky has become a fan favorite character within the MCU, and he has appeared in a grand total of five movies (end-credits scenes aside).

For this birthday, both Bucky and Stan have another reason to celebrate. Next week will mark the premiere of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the first project to put Bucky into the spotlight. Alongside Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Stan will lead the second Marvel series made for Disney+, which was once scheduled for last year. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will pick up with Sam and Bucky in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame as they grapple with new threats and the loss of their best friend Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).

Clearly, March 2021 is a big month for Bucky, and Stan has decided to commemorate it. Stan posted a birthday message for Bucky over on social media and joked that they've "been through some interesting fights. And hairstyles." Additionally, he shared a funny picture of himself getting his hair done on the set of Civil War, along with some videos of his fight practice sessions. Check out the post down below.

Captain America: Civil War was a vital movie for Bucky. After being framed for the bombing of a UN conference, Bucky is forced to confront his past as both himself and the Winter Soldier. Though he was unable to beat his brainwashing in Civil War, he has since been cured of Hydra's training, thus opening the door for him to actually heal from his experiences. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will see him moving on from what happened before as he searches for his place in a new, post-Blip world.

When Stan commemorated Bucky's birthday last year, there was some confusion over the character's age. Stan had celebrated as if he was 107, when really, based in Marvel canon, he should've been 106 when factoring in Endgame's time jump. Now, though, Bucky is finally 107, though he certainly doesn't look it. Next week, fans can properly celebrate how far he's come by watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+. Until then, they can revisit past favorites like Civil War... and perhaps try to guess what scene the crazy hair picture was for.
